THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24

EMERALD CITY---trailer released for the NBC remake of THE WIZARD OF OZ.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WgvCprJLkw

ALIEN: COVENANT---poster released for the newest Alien movie.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY---Michelle Yeoh will play Captain Han Bo, commander of the Starship Shenzhou. Han Bo and the Shenzhou will play a key part in the new CBS series. The lead role of the lieutenant commander is expected to be a black or hispanic female.

THE WALKING DEAD---although Season 7's premiere had the second best ratings in the history of the series with 17 million viewers, the ratings have been steadily dropping since. Episode 2 had 12.4 million viewers, and Episode 3 had 11.7 million viewers. The lowest ratings ever was 11 million in Season 3.
Speculation for the declining ratings was attributed to Negan killing two popular characters and the constantly-shifting themes from episode to episode.

SHERLOCK---new photos show Sherlock and John and Mary's new baby. Another new photo shows Toby Jones as villain Culverton Smith. Steven Moffat said about Smith, "There was always something charming and engaging about Moriarty. There was something fascinating and actually amoral, rather than immoral, about Charles Augustus Magnussen. This guy is the purest evil."

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII---JJ Abrams said he regrets not directing the sequel, "I'd be lying if I said there weren't pangs of regret. Particularly when I realize I won't get to say 'Action!' to Daisy Ridley, or get to work with Mark Hamill in a scene where he gets to speak."

Dorothy . . . And The Argonauts?

That Alien poster is a bit tongue in cheek, wouldn't you say?

They really worked hard on a catchy phrase didn't they?

There'll be (probably already is) a lot of spoof Alien posters with alternate lines. "CRAP" "BECAUSE NO ONE CARES ABOUT ENGINEERS" Things like that. (i didn't work on that one long).

I love that poster -- seems like Scott is making his take on Cameron's ALIENS!

yeah exactly. Endless whole-episode diversions one after the other. Im glad people are voting with the channel hopping button. It might bring the scriptwriters a bit of humility and make them remember that you should never lose sight of the fact you arent bigger than a series. Arrogant tinkering and messing with a successful formula is dangerous.
Someone high up should say "Hey! See them figures?? Dont do that again. Leave your smug, Im-untouchable attitude at the door when you switch on your keyboard."

this series has been easily the worst so far.

The Walking Dead its a pile of poop from day one zombie films series are bullshit in general why the fuck would I want to watch people getting bit & hacked over & over again multiple hours & there's a lot of zombie doubles a flawed show all that money they put in a disaster they've spent 150 million odd so far on what. Dawn of the dead 1978 had a budget of 1.5 million it made 55 million in the America alone.

It's awful, i've stopped watching it - the writing was so bad it beggared belief. They do nothing with the time they have. Last season was very, very poor - the overall storylines and the sheer stupidity of almost every character in it is just mind-boggling. The lazy ever-changing logic of how the zombies act and react. The pathetic contrivances to get people killed. You can feel the writers hand behind every nonsensical decision a character makes - every weak shock. You'd have to go through each episode and do a commentary as to why every scene is either recycled, makes no sense or is too long. It could be so good and yet they continue to make it so stupid. That Alexandria place, they've done nothing with it. The Wolves were meant to be big villains, they did nothing with them. Negan is hilariously awful, but you can feel the writers think he's "cool". There appears to be no awareness on the part of the writers and producers of how little sense anything makes, which means it's going to be an endless slog of stupidity. Not a journey i wish to keep going on. (Unless i hear it's gotten good again, in which case i'll come crawling back like the turncoat i am).

People so easily confuse style for substance. I think this is how shows and movies become hits nowadays. There's really nothing under the hood.

Why, isn't this quite the jolly party crowd!

I think THE WALKING DEAD is as good now as it's ever been, kicked off by the brutal opening (to be fair, I have some issues with the discontinuity of Glenn's death, but that doesn't take anything away from the quality of the writing).

Well, now I'm chiming in, so bring on the cheer!

That ALIEN (Whatever the movie's title is?) poster is a teaser poster, but disappointingly just another modern movie poster photoshop nothing. Why not great poster art again?

Anyay, this kind of genre entertainment is like pornography without the banging uglies -- it's just repeat, repeat, repeat.

Just as there are only so many ways of "doing it," how many ways are there to see walking dead and aliens killing and getting killed? The only thing amazing about any of it is how long it takes for people to get tired of it.

Thor, it's awful. The writing is truly terrible. The party was spoiled by the writing, then the zombies ate the crowd. And it was all Rick's fault! (he gets everyone killed all the time)

Do you read the comics? I never did, but i heard they don't really follow them except in broad strokes? I heard they're a LOT more brutal to the characters in it, too. I only don't read them because i never liked Charlie Adlard as an artist. I don't think he's ever drawn one interesting panel in his entire career and too many of his characters share the same face.

No, never read the comics. Was a big comic book reader as a kid and teen, but tuned out of them by the late 90s. I watch the show only for its filmatic and narrative values, of which there are plenty.

Thor thinks "Penny Dreadful" is high art. Of course he thinks "The Walking Dead" is better than it's ever been. The zombies ate Thor's brain a long time ago.

You know what's as awful as "The Walking Dead"? This HBO "Westworld" borefest. What a convoluted trite nothing it is.

What I can't believe is I watch this junk.

I'm three episodes in to The Walking Dead S7, & am (sort of) enjoying it so far. I still think the best season was the first, it doesn't go on too long, starts with the beginning of it all & ends with an explosion, & is going forward all the time, & it quite self contained, you can enjoy it as a stand alone drama. The series does tend to get bogged down, first at the farm, then the prison, it's best when they're moving on. It's best not to think about the show too deeply, as nothing about it makes any sense at all...& it's only a telly program.

I really enjoyed The Walking Dead when it first began, but after a while I got the impression it just wasn't ever going anywhere. I stopped watching around the beginning of season 4, and don't feel compelled to go back to it.

I'm very excited about Michelle Yeoh joining Star Trek: Discovery.

You're such a beacon of light, Rory! big grin

I think WESTWORLD is one of the best things on TV right now (Hopkins alone is worth tuning in each week)!

By the Holy Phosphor . . . what idle talk be this? Hast thou no fear of the furious retribution the lords of Syndication can bring down upon these unworthy heads? Didst thou knowest not endless repetition be good for the ears, eyes and soul of yonder subscriber?
