ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
Composed and Conducted by BRUCE BROUGHTON
INTRADA Special Collection 366

For this Christmas season, Intrada presents an expanded edition of Bruce Broughton's holiday-spirited score to Paramount's 1991 film All I Want For Christmas. Broughton gave the film a traditional theme-and-variations score, anchored in a sweet, lyrical melody that transcends the yuletide context. The composer delivered a feast of snow, scampering mice and familial antics that just seemed to call for a Tchaikovsky-flavored accompaniment. The score highlights an effervescent mix of piano, sleigh bells, glockenspiel, celesta, triangle, upper woodwinds and vibraphone, as well as more dramatic—even exuberant—sequences for full orchestra. Broughton also wrote a puppy-love theme, picked tenderly on acoustic guitar with contemporary keyboard accompaniment.

A song album was released on Curb Records in 1991 featuring six selections from Broughton’s score as well as vocals. To present all of Broughton's forty minutes of score, Intrada newly transferred and mastered the digital scoring masters, courtesy of Paramount Pictures, mixed directly to two-track stereo by Armin Steiner as each cue was being recorded. As is customary for this engineer, the resulting audio is crisp and clean, with astonishing detail and rich dynamic range.

The film stars Jamey Sheridan and Harley Jane Kozak as Michael and Catherine O’Fallon, a mom and dad now divorced because (in part) Michael had “drop-kicked yuppie style” in order to pursue his dream of opening a diner. Their children, Ethan and Hallie, are played by Ethan Embry (as Ethan Randall) and a nine-year-old Thora Birch, who starts the story in motion when she asks Macy’s Santa Claus to get her parents back together.

I'm on a Mac and the sound clips work for me.

I've got the original album, I'm surprised how short the complete score is.

Same here but I ordered it without hesitation.

Oh, I plan to order it, but my gift exchange choice is an Intrada title, and I don't want to risk opening it before December 25th.

Or I could order it and have it sent to work!

Good score
Terrible movie, but maybe worth suffering through for Lauren Bacall.

Another wonderful Broughton score to add to the collection. I am not one to buy "Christmas" music, but this does not even make me think Christmas-just wonderful music. IMHO the man is a genius!
