My fingers are crossed that Disney gets a hold of the master tapes of all of these scores, and releases them in the best sound possible. -Rick O. Agreed. Would love to see it given the Matessino, Titus, Bond, LLL treatment in the form of a glorious box set. (I know, Intrada is Disney...) Mattesino did the editing and assembly work on the RCA laser-etched expanded editions. I think it is TESB has some serious mastering flaws that set it apart even from the other SE albums. One of these albums is noticeably different than the other two. Chris Malone wrote a paper about this several years ago and is worth everyone's time: http://www.malonedigital.com/starwars.pdf

It should be mentioned that the original albums were remastered for new vinyl releases recently, and are available as high resolution downloads. While these releases are limited to the program material originally released in 1977, 1980 and 1983 respectively, they are probably the best sounding editions out there right now.

I didn't do any work on them myself. I think things have progressed in the ensuing 20 YEARS just a tad. Refs were on CASSETTE back then, for heaven's sake. On the other hand, 25,000 copies of Star Wars also sold on the FIRST DAY of the CD's release in brick-and-mortar stores. (And I've got a gold record.) Mike M.

I saw that Chris Malone article before. So basically, three of the most important movie soundtracks of all time exist in only second rate condition, compiled largely from a mix of 2nd or 3rd generation elements, many degraded, and then butchered in mastering. I despair. I'd say record them anew, but I honestly doubt anyone could record those scores so faithfully that people would stop wanting the originals. And I'll bet the original manuscripts don't exist, right? But what about the ALBUM programs available on the HD digital download sites. How do THEY sound? Where are THEY in the ranking of things? Cheers

Ye Gads STREWTH! 20 YEARS since the Special Eds were released? Crazy, huh? Maybe something will arrive for the 40th? I need one of the "in the know" people to tell me "It's not the rights."

I despair. I totally agree with this. Of all the scores to be stuck in this conundrum. Curse you Sony! Do it the right way or relinquish the rights!

Really badly wish that someone could get a hold of good masters and release a good quality full presentation of all three scores. Well, frankly all six. The prequel trilogy needs a proper full release.
