I realize there are 3 weeks left in the year but I know I'm finished buying so why not create a new thread?

I bought a few and traded for a few. I only get a few titles a year but there were some great ones.

My favorite release of 2016....

Starship Troopers Deluxe Edition by Basil Poledouris (Varese)

I was hoping Varese would expand this one and they came through big time. Thanks Varese!

Other great releases---

Jurassic Park / Lost World by John Williams (La La Land)

The Shawshank Redemption by Thomas Newman (La La Land)

The Ten Commandments by Elmer Bernstein (Intrada)

Rambo: First Blood Part 2 by Jerry Goldsmith (Intrada)

The Rocketeer by James Horner (Intrada)

The Omen 40th Anniversary Edition by Jerry Goldsmith (Varese)

Se7en by Howard Shore (Howe Records) Bargain of the year at only $7.99 from Amazon

The Terminator by Brad Fiedel (Milan)

I'd be interested in seeing other members' favorites.

Starship Troopers: The Deluxe Edition was a release I'd been waiting YEARS to see released, and it is a fantastic set...

...but I think my favorite release this year was one I didn't even consider buying when it was released.

Intrada's Rambo: First Blood Part II

While I honestly can't tell a huge difference between the primary score and the alternate three-channel mix on Disc 2, both of them sound incredible. The bonus material is absolutely phenomenal--especially when considering the depth of digging around that needed to be done. "End Credits" (demo cassette version) is a fine piece of music (and to my non-audiophile ears, the quality is more than adequate).

The real favorite of mine on this release though is "Stories" (Trumpet Stripe Only). So haunting! Several times now, I've actually woken up in the morning with those three trumpets playing in my head.

Other favorites from this year are

Starship Troopers: The Deluxe Edition (as previously mentioned)

Robocop 3: The Deluxe Edition

Cutthroat Island

The Terminator (Milan)

The Rocketeer (another long-awaited score but count me in with those who are disappointed/frustrated with the too-quiet sound levels--I have to keep adjusting the volume throughout)

And soon.. Jurassic Park and Beverly Hills Cop

I enjoyed the hell out of the FINDING DORY and THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN soundtracks, but the best release for me was Danny Elfman's "Rabbit & Rogue" ballet (not a "soundtrack" in the sense we normally mean it, but you know...)

Cannot possibly decide between Starship Troopers and Jurassic Park/The Lost World. Both have sated my holy grail lust for a long, long time. At least until January I'd say. wink

The Terminator, Seven, and BTAS Vol. 4 were very pleasant surprises as well.

Starship Troopers. Hellboy. Was the Twilight Zone 2016 or 2015?

Horner's Collage/Concerto.

haven't sat down with Jurassic Park or Cheyenne Autumn or Little Box of Horrors yet, and might not get the chance until next year, but I doubt any will beat the big winner for me this year...

Intrada's The Rocketeer

runner up for now goes to Tadlow's The Blue Max,

followed by Varese's Poledouris whammy of Starship Troopers and Robocop 3.

I obviously do not support expanded releases, so I would need to pick a premiere release. As such, the choice is easy:

BEVERLY HILLS COP 1+2 (Harold Faltermeyer)

(I take it this thread is about archival releases, and not albums from 2016 films).

Not at all. Anything that was released in 2016 qualifies.

Intrada's The Rocketeer

Nothing tops this. The expanded score breathes new life into what was already a perfect album presentation.

Ah, well then I refer to the 'best scores of 2016' thread for my list. But for the archival releases, BHC wins.

Mine would have been the Cobert score for Jekyll and Hyde. Having bought Cobert's sister score, Dracula, from Varese, I had been looking forward to buying this new one. But unfortunately it was made available only on the condition that I buy eleven other unrelated CDs that are of no interest to me. So I won't be buying it and will wait for a copy to appear in the local library.
