Just for a giggle I was imagining rescripting some classic movie line replies using Leslie Nielsen’s "Airplane" (or Police Squad aka Frank Drebin’s) serious, straight man, deadpan delivery style. From Die Hard, the classic scene in which John McClane “surrenders” to Hans Gruber after they’ve blown the roof of the Nakatomi building. Of course Bruce Willis is John McClane, but Nielsen is Hans. McClane: “Well, you got me!” (Nielsen) Hans: “Still a cowboy, Mr. McClane! Ah, Americans, you’re all alike. Only, this time John Wayne doesn’t walk off into the sunset with Grace Kelly.” McClane: “It was Gary Cooper, @$$hole!” (Nielsen) Hans: “John Wayne walked off into the sunset with Gary Cooper?” From Deliverance, the scene in which Ed (John Voight) and Bobby (Ned Beatty) are held at gunpoint by the “Mountain Men” (the scene where, well, you know). Nielsen is Bobby. Mountain Man: “Ye ever had ye ba!!s cut off?” (Nielsen) Bobby: “Uh, no, but I cracked ‘em pretty badly on a bicycle bar once.” If you care to, I’d love to see your ideas.
