I recently received a promo for this 2016 film which I haven't seen. The IMDB says this about the story:

"Three friends dream up the Compaq portable computer at a Texas diner in 1981, and soon find themselves battling mighty IBM, for PC supremacy. Their improbable journey altered the future of computing and shaped the world we now know."

In any case, the score is yet another gorgeous retro synth score befitting the theme of the story. Worth checking out if you like this kind of 80s, funky synth elements that are so popular these days.

Well, this evaporated without a trace.

Which is a shame, because it's one of the best scores of the year (it didn't quite make it to my own Top 10, but I'm voting for it in another award circumstance).

Alrighty then! This is taking off.... big grin

I've sampled a few Hultquist scores this year, but except for this, they weren't terribly exciting. Does anyone know if he's done anything similar in the past?

Thor, I can't answer your question, but I did appreciate your posting about this score. Thing is, when I started listening on Spotify I found the short tracks distracting - tend to think electronica especially needs time to breathe, so I want extended versions not short statements. So I just moved to similar electronica albums that aren't hamstrung by film-music needs. The curse of Spotify - it is awfully easy to say, "enough of that, think I'll try this instead." And I didn't post cause I'm not usually much for dissing anything, don't find that too valuable or a good use of my time.

I'm giving it another go.

And thank YOU, Sean, for posting in this and the PINOUT thread. It had only been me and the crickets for some weeks now. smile Something tells me that this kind of music isn't appreciated by the more conservative majority on FSM.

Yes, I was kind of surprised that no one posted at all, since there is definitely a subset here who go for this sort of thing (whereas I like elements of just about every kind of approach, at least some of the time).

I've started a couple of threads like this, not exactly a self-esteem builder. wink That's why i'm trying to make a point of at least saying something about a thread if it has any interest for me - so that the originator knows they're not just crying in the wilderness. (Hint hint to anyone else reading this!)

PS I'm enjoying this more this time around, not minding the shorter cues as much, finding more of them doing a good job rounding out the idea (even if most of them could go on for another 5-10 minutes). Just goes to show how much other factors influence our listening, and a good reason to give something multiple chances.

Yes, I don't mind the short cues myself. The whole thing seems to come together nicely. There's a definite Tangerine Dream vibe going on here, and it's a bit more 'gritty' than the more outrovert, synthpop-oriented PINOUT -- but I adore both for different reasons.
