Anyone know where online I could find an accurate set of track titles for the Lawrence of Arabia soundtrack disc included with the 2013 50th Anniversary Blu-ray box set?

Be advised that the Overture and the previously unreleased Entr'acte are exactly the same piece of music.

Well I have compared the Varese and the Blu Ray releases. The new version does indeed sound much clearer but the overall sound is somewhat lacking the dynamic yield on the high end. Gone is the reverb and it now sounds dry and there is some compression used.

If I recall right, Amer, this score wasn't even recorded in a proper recording studio, but an actual shooting soundstage at Shepperton or somesuch.

As such, the sound on every release of the soundtrack has left a lot to be desired. Though when I saw the 1989 restoration, I couldn't believe how good everything sounded in Dolby SR.

I suspect this box set soundtrack disc is from the music stems prepared by Sony for the Digital Cinema Package and the blu-ray. It has that pinched feel that the 1998-99 Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Jaws soundtrack releases had, and probably for the same reasons.

Still, this album is a Treasure of the Twentieth Century, and I wouldn't go without it.

Yes it was done on Shepperton Studios Soundstage ... but as such a lot of scores where, as it before the time when Abbey Road did film scores. (Abbey Road really only started doing film sores after Eric Tomlinson was forced to move his Anvil facility from Denham because of studio closesure). They had minimal miking on gthe soundstage and limited channels, hence the pretty awful sound when compared to Hollywood of the same era with scores like BEN-HUR and SPARTACUS. Maurice also recorded IS PARIS BURNING? at Shepperton.....not many places could fit an 86 piece orchestra plus 12 pianos!!! But with the opening of the original CTS studio, then Anvil and Olympic etc.. scoring began to move into proper music studios.

LAWRENCE is a particularly difficult score get a good balance on even with a multitude of mics...that is why it took me 2 goes at recording it before I got it right?

It is a really fantastic box set, I got it last year.
A lot of box sets are so-so, but this is a good one for a real lover of Lawrence of Arabia, which I am.
The print quality is really fantastic on this blu, and the score sounds just fine, considering the year and such.

Yes a great box set. Only disappointment was that a copy of the original souvenir program, one of the best of its kind, was not also included.

Yes, and the end credits music is not 'previously unreleased' as it was included on the Varese reissue.

I take it that 'Lost in the Desert' is 'Gasim Lost in the Desert', found on the Tadlow in longer form?

That's the only actual new track.

I'm afraid the "Lost in the Desert" track on the Blu-ray CD is actually a mislabeled "Lawrence rescues Gasim" or "Rescue of Gasim" as it was labeled on the original soundtrack album, so there's technically no new music on the CD.

Looks like someone might have to purchase the Tadlow Recording of the complete score ....?

I meant new as in derived from the original recording, though since you mentioned it, I do still need to get ahold of the Tadlow recording.

The Tadlow is THE 'Aurence to play, as an owner of them all. They just nailed it, and a terrific bonus disc on that set too.

I'm in the midst of a Jarre-athon currently, watching Thunderdome now, and reveling in that wonderful London sound. I hear CTS was not an ideal room, but to my ears, Max 3 & The Bride sound gorgeous, in terms of playing & sound. Or was it just Dick Lewzey's wizardry at work?
It's always nice to hear tales of those days from you, James F., at the risk of being an arse kisser! It was my Golden Age.

DO NOT MISS THE TADLOW RECORDING!!!

It is a fantastic recreation of the score, one of the best I've ever heard. If you like this score at all, you ought to own this record. It perfectly recreates the ambience of the original recording without any of the sonic pitfalls, the performance is spot-on, and the additional music works well filling out the score. It is a completely satisfying presentation of Maurice Jarre's classic epic, and has supplanted all other Lawrences for me.

And the second disc is great too.
