AMC has teamed with BBC to produce a limited series adaptation of John le Carre’s famed novel “The Spy Who Came in From the Cold” with Ink Factory and Paramount Television.

The deal marks a reunion for the team that produced “The Night Manager,” another le Carre adaptation shepherded by Ink Factory. “Slumdog Millionaire’s” Simon Beaufoy is on board to write the episodes.

” ‘Spy’ is a deep tale of intrigue in one of the most uncertain times in history,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV.

The novel is set in 1962 at the height of the Cold War. It revolves around the battle between a hard-drinking British intelligence officer and an East German counterintelligence operative.

BBC, AMC and Ink Factory collaborated on “The Night Manager,” which just earned three Golden Globe Awards this week for stars Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman.

“Spy” was previously adapted as a film directed by Martin Ritt and starring Richard Burton, Claire Bloom and Oskar Werner.

Paramount Television will distribute the “Spy” series internationally.
