FSM didn't always do it -- hence I had to wait for the great Brad Willis to do a Girl Named Sooner cover (from the tie-in novel) ...plus for Williams there was The Paper Chase.

THE PAPER CHASE had an 'inside cover'.

Do you have a link to the GIRL NAMED SOONER cover art? I've been looking for that myself.

That's a great cover!

Would you mind cross posting it to the “Custom Covers Thread?”

Very nice cover. From MGM's standpoint this release needed to in all respects look like an expanded Stanley & Iris in order for the add-on score to be approved. They would not have accepted a full Pete 'n' Tillie back cover since it was just a short amount of licensed material being added. Universal agreed but asked for a few things such as having their title and studio mentioned on the front cover and the key art and credit block somewhere in the booklet. This went on for WEEKS until everyone was satisfied with the exact wording and placement. It was not a simple arrangement to pull off, but it was worth it to get the earlier score on there.

Thanks for the insight, Mike. Sometimes what seems inexplicable is very logically explicked.

I can count on one hand how many times I have bought a score CD without having seen the film. I liked Williams' scores for Accidental Tourist and Presumed Innocent and thought this title would be another one of his easy listening "gentle" scores. It is. Perfect for a quiet Sunday morning listen. I'm glad I got it.

I like your cover too, SingingObelisk -- but is there any way to fix whatever that smudge is on Carol Burnett's chin? It isn't on the previous custom cover by JB Fan using the same photograph:

(And thanks for the behind the scenes explanation, Mike!)

Hi Yavar

I've spruced up the cover as much as I could. Hope you like it!

Looks a lot better -- the weird thing on her chin is gone. Thanks! Now I just have to buy this CD (and Under Siege 2)...

Thor, I bumped Brad's post in the custom covers thread for you.

You can't use an image of the two characters with their child to promote the movie or the soundtrack, it's a spoiler!

So, Stanley and Iris is on sale on the VS website, but it's temporarily out of stock for a few weeks AND it's sold out. Which is it, VS?

It's only out of print not sold out, but you can not add it to your order. It's the way the back end works. I didn't create it don't shoot the messenger. Sorry.

Just wanted to say this CD is so enjoyable from beginning to end... it's been getting a lot of spins from me in the month or so since it arrived. It's definitely become my go-to choice for the quieter Williams sound (along with Book Thief, Memoirs of a Geisha, and maybe The Terminal). Thanks for making it available, Varese!

77 minutes of new old John Williams. How can one not be happy?
I'm noticing subtle differences in some tracks on Stanley & Iris between this new version and the old Varese release.
It may only be a new mix revealing different orchestral details, but my ears perked up a few times while listening to it for the first time (Letters certainly sounded same but different).
Also, some new unheard/unused music from Pete n Tillie available here, making it a bit more variable than my old tape from the film which offered the theme over and over again.
I haven't opened the booklet out yet, so if all is revealed in there, please continue with your day smile

Great release Varese, much obliged.

edit..I obviously wasn't even reading the back of the CD which tells me Film Versions follow the album versions.
Nothing to see here, move along smile

Older topic, apologies, but does anyone have any idea where I can get the full orchestral score for Stanley and Iris (musical notation, not soundtrack)?
