Are these "objective" predictions, based on the academy's general preference, or what YOUR favourites are? Big difference.

I hope THE BFG doesn't get nominated. It's one of Williams' weakest scores. And I certainly hope ROGUE ONE doesn't get nominated -- it's one of the most dreadful scores I've heard in years (so much that I actually HATE it).

I think my own preferences (i.e. what I consider the 5 best scores of 2016) are considerably different than what the academy will vote for. Mine would be NERVE, THE NEON DEMON, EDDIE THE EAGLE, LE TORTUE ROUGE and DISTANCE BETWEEN DREAMS. If I'm very, very lucky, THE NEON DEMON might get a pass, but ultimately I think the film and score are too "weird" for the academy.

I seem to remember really liking it in the film - I haven't heard it on disc, which might be a different experience. But I know that, in comparison with your feelings for Mr Giacchino, you're John Barry's biggest fan!

Indeed!

I thought the film was OK, but the score is at least 75% responsible for me not evaluating the film higher.

My predictions for the nominations - most of us will complain about them.

Well, we'll know in just a few minutes. I'll update my "complaining" then... smile

I guess electronic scores are not particularly popular in the academy. Or am I wrong? It would be fun to know how many electronic scores have been nominated up through the years.

There are instances like MIDNIGHT EXPRESS and CHARIOTS OF FIRE, of course, but that's AGES ago. I don't think they fare too well these days.
