georges delerue - comme un boomerang COMME UN BOOMERANG has been reissued in 2015 within Digitmovies´ Delerue CD set which you may have overlooked: http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=109121 For most of these French EMI Pathe/Pema LPs from the 70s Sugar doesn`t have anymore than the album master - if at all. There are even cases where they don´t have anything anymore as for a few Pierre Jansen scores.

Among the great Sarde scores they own, there is also DEUX HOMMES DANS LA VILLE, which has never been released on CD save for a 1'20 rendition of the main theme. Let's hope one label like MBR or Quartet will make it happen. I am waiting for years now for a CD edition of the superb DEUX HOMMES DANS LA VILLE. Along with several other Sarde titles in Sugar´s CAM catalogue list DEUX HOMMES has indeed been reserved by someone for a long time. This "someone" might be Quartet or MBR, but when will the title ever appear on CD and why are there such big problems to release it? Do we still have to wait for years to get it? Any info by the label who has reserved the title would be much appreciated. At least I still have the old Phoenix LP from the mid 80s with almost 20 minutes of the score which is much better than nothing.

MBR have never released any Sarde score. They don t have an agreement with him, it's either Quartet or Universal. I hope they will.some day... But Disques Cinémusique in Canada for example could also release HELLÉ about two years ago on CD because the score was owned by Sugar. Maybe you have forgotten about this. And the rights for DEUX HOMMES DANS LA VILLE belong to Sugar in just the same way. However, Quartet through the last years has released some scores for which Sarde also has the rights or is at least with his music publishing company Philippe Sarde Editions co-owner of them. This is probably not the case for DEUX HOMMES DANS LA VILLE where Sugar nowadays is the real owner and therefore the decisive factor.

I like what disque cinemusique do, but they don t work the same way as Quartet or MRB. That´s not the point really. But above you wrote that only Quartet or Universal could release Sarde scores owned by Sugar. And as you can see for yourself this is/was not really true. DCM won´t release any CDs in future anyway. So if their Sarde CD release or those of Quartet are better doesn´t matter anymore. But what matters is that their HELLÉ CD was correctly licensed (as opposed to most of the US titles they have released which were only vinyl rips) from Sugar in Italy. And they got the tapes from there. There were even some "remerciements" to Sarde himself on the back cover of the CD.

Thanks Stefan for revealing that 2 HOMMES DANS LA VILLE is possibly in the pipeline. I’ve seen the movie ca 2 years ago and would say the 16’38 suite featured on the Phoenix LP probably contains the complete score since there is not that much music in this film. I wish it could be paired together with yet another Delon and Sarde-related unreleased score, LE TOUBIB. Besides the beautiful main theme available on a triple General Music France LP gathering themes from various Delon movies, the war sequences are illustrated by great stuff. However, I don’t know who owns the rights for this one. Maybe Pema Music (that is also CAM)? Pema Music itself as a company doesn´t exist anymore for a long time now and their entire back catalogue is nowadays managed by Sugar as you can read for example here: http://www.societe.com/societe/soc-pema-music-642032379.html The music publisher for LE TOUBIB is Musiques et Solutions in France and therefore not Sugar. So it probably won´t be released together with DEUX HOMMES DANS LA VILLE. I know the DEUX HOMMES film very well and of course - and as usual with Sarde during the 70s- there is not that much music in the film itself. I would agree with you that the tracks issued on the Phoenix LP are more or less the complete score. It could be that there are still 5-10 minutes which were not used in the film itself, but probably not much is missing. So it is quite clear that on CD it must be coupled with another Sarde score owned by Sugar. There are quite a lot of Sarde scores which have already been reserved in the Sugar list. For example: ADIEU POULET, LES CORPS CÉLESTES, LA VEUVE COUDERC, VINCENT, FRANCOIS, PAUL ET LES AUTRES... Strangely also a few very short scores like LE CHAT for which certainly no more material is available than what has already been released. On the other hand, LES SEINS DE GLACE or the rather unknown LE DROIT D´AIMER from 1972 - another score which would musically go well together wiith DEUX HOMMES - have not been reserved. Maybe DEUX HOMMES will be coupled - when it will finally be released on CD at all! - with another Delon movie from that time like LA VEUVE COUDERC. Provided that Sugar still has more music of LA VEUVE than what has already been released by Universal on the Sarde/Granier-Deferre compilation.

And in terms of other CAM LPs, perhaps one that I think would be most interesting is from a rather obscure TV movie, "I Recuperanti" by Gianni Ferrio in 1969. The music is orchestral and absolutely lovely! It would make a great CD release. I'd assume some labels would also want to release Susanna (1968) and Emmanuelle (1969) by Gianni Ferrio, both CAM LPs, as two other very similar LPs have been released by Beat and Digitmovies in the last 2 years. Another beat-lounge CAM LP that has a very beautiful main theme is "Quel Negozio di Piazza Navona" by Riz Ortolani (1969) and I'm surprised no one has picked that one up yet. "Mondo Di Notte Numero 3" by Riz Ortolani (1963) is another orchestral LP with a beautiful main theme, even though the sequencing is a bit weird, with all "source" music on one side of the LP. This one might have right issues since it was also released by Warner in the US. "Bianco, Rosso, Giallo, Rosa" is a P. Umiliani (1964) from his jazz period that is filled with many themes (though I must say it is probably not among his top soundtracks). Finally, "Sette Uomini e un Cervello" by Carlo Rustichelli (1967) surely has been considered since the A-side of the LP (Scacco Internazionale) has been released recently by Beat. Then I think it was already mentioned by Stefan that despite being CAM LPs, "Il Giorno della Civetta / I 7 Fratelli Cervi" and "Hong Kong un Addio" are not in the CAM catalogue. That's one reason I haven't made a full list of CAM LPs/7".

Ortolani´s QUEL NEGOZIO DI PIAZZA NAVONA was a Nazionalmusic title, although the score was released on a CAM LP in 1969. Therefore the same applies as for GIORNO DELLA CIVETTA/SETTE FRATELLI CERVI and it is therefore not available anymore from Sugar. Probably only tape copies from the Ortolani estate could be used if they still exist. Ferrio´s I RECUPERANTI which is indeeed a quite lovely symphonic score has not been reserved by any label till now and is probably of not too great interest for the Italian labels. The film may be too obscure and it is not a fan favourite or from a popular genre so that such a title certainly won´t sell. Ferrio´s SUSANNA E I SUOI DOLCI VIZI and Ortolani´s MONDO DI MOTTE N° 3 (= ECCO) have also not been reserved till now. I suppose that SETTE UOMINI E UN CERVELLO will come from Beat in the near future as they have recently issued SCACCO INTERNAZIONALE. And of course Ferrio´s IO, EMMANUELLE has also already been reserved in the Sugar list.

I am myself quite fond of LE DROIT D'AIMER, and I would recommend that one for a release. I have the 7" single, but since it is mostly quiet piano-based music, it would benefit from a cleaner non-vinyl sound. That piano-based theme of LE DROIT D´AIMER was reused by Sarde (with slightly different orchestration) as main theme for his US score LOVESICK in 1985.
