These days my main job is an author and journalist and my first novel, Purged, comes out in shops next month. I've recorded and released a score album for it. It's available to stream free at Bandcamp, and being the soundtrack experts I'd be super grateful if you might give it a quick spin to see what you think.

Thanks folks!

That title track is very intense and interesting, sort of Moroder meets Elfman meets something beyond the sum of the parts.

Very good, where's a synopsis of the book? Music for a novel is an interesting idea.

Hey William, thanks for giving it a listen. Good point on the Moroder and Elfman vibe! Other tracks on the soundtrack were inspired by David Shire (Track 14) and John Carpenter (various tracks).

Anyway, Purged is the first in a series about an atheist ex-church minister who helps the police solve religiously motivated crimes. It's classed as Crime Fiction, but it has fairly generous shades of horror and supernatural hints. In the first book, which is released on February 16th in the UK, he's on the trail of a Christian serial killer. It's out in Paperback, eBook and another UK publisher is currently making an audio book out of it which will be released both as a digital download and physical CD edition. There's more info at my website www.peterlaws.co.uk. I'll be cropping up in various newspapers, magazines and national and local radio over the coming weeks.

Regarding soundtracks to books, I used to write 'fake' soundtracks to novels I read, years ago. Specifically the three novels in the Howling series by Gary Brandner. It was a lot of fun to write something to my own book, though. I put it on Bandcamp in the hope could stream the album for free a few times, then it prompts for a payment of £5 if anyone wanted to download it or continue streaming. I was hoping it might be a tiny little fundraiser to supplement writing income and so far I've sold a grand total of...wait for it...ONE copy! ha ha. Still though, it's fun to just have it out there and we'll see if anyone gets into it.

Thanks again for taking the time William. That was encouraging to me.

That sounds like a great premise just up the alley of BBC drama, it's the time for that, but it also gives a lot of scope for commentary about the religious psyche both positive and negative. Auntie Beeb producers could easily go for a dark thriller like this.

Take this to the limit.

The Star Wars novel Shadows of the Empire had an original score by Joel McNeely that was released on Varèse Sarabande.

Shadows of the Empire is the only other one that comes to mind.

Of course there's thousands of pieces of music out there that are inspired by novels. Many of which probably aren't much different from a 'soundtrack' to one.

I was delighted to hear the score I wrote to my novel Purged played on national radio a few days back. BBC Radio 4 played some and yesterday BBC Radio Tees played two tracks. Exciting.

The music was used a little in the book launch video too which is here if you're interested:

Thanks, pooter. I can't help but dig those creepy grooves, and the book sounds like it's right up my dark alley (not like that!).

Congrats, and best wishes for continued success.

Thanks Josh, I appreciate you taking the time to check it out!

I've just submitted the second novel to the publishers so that comes out in July. Towards June I'll get working on the score for that one!

Peter, any chance of an ebook version in the USA? I see it is on Amazon.com as a paperback and audiobook, but not for kindle.

I'll give your music a listen when I'm not in the mood for Wild Wild West tunes!

You're right! It doesn't seem to be out on Kindle in the US at the moment, only in paperback and audio. Not sure why that is. I think you can get it on the Canadian Amazon for Kindle. Sorry!

First one I became aware of is the horrifying soundtrack to the even worse book Battlefield Earth.

There are songs. I actually bought this LP. http://amzn.to/2vKcxQd

*shudder*

And of course there was this: http://amzn.to/2fw3Jqk
