TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14 STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---Jimmy Vee will officially play R2-D2 in the movie. He played R2-D2 in THE FORCE AWAKENS, but it was an uncredited role. Vee said, “It’s been an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside the legendary Kenny Baker. Kenny was a fantastic actor and taught me all the ‘tricks’ on how he brought R2-D2 to life which I will continue to portray in his honor. I’m so excited to be a part of the Star Wars universe and can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been working so hard on for the last year.” Also, Star Wars News Net posted about rumors regarding the upcoming teaser trailer. Also, a rumor says THE LAST JEDI will feature three planets: Ahch-To (where Luke Skywalker teaches Rey), a casino planet and a "Mars with snow on it". The Mars-type planet is believed to be controlled by the First Order. THE BATMAN---John Campea of Collider Movie Talk said he was told by three sources that Ben Affleck is in talks to leave the Batman franchise, “Ben Affleck, make no mistake, he wants out. He doesn’t want to be Batman anymore.” He added, "I have been told that Affleck is talking with Warner Bros. in an attempt to get out of being Batman. And if they do not let him out of being Batman, that the standalone 'Batman' film that ultimately happens will be the last time we see Affleck as Batman." Campea said Warner Bros. and Affleck have not commented on the reports. JURASSIC WORLD 2---NBCUniveral registered three new domain names: AllCreaturesHaveRights.com, AllCreaturesHaveRights.org and IslaNublarRescueMission.com. The new domain names reinforce earlier comments by JURASSIC WORLD writer/director Colin Trevorrow that the sequel would be about dinosaur abuse. STAR TREK: DISCOVERY---three new cast members were announced. Terry Serpico (ARMY WIVES) will play Admiral Anderson. Two other roles are crew members of the series' secondary starship Shenzou: Maulik Pancholy (30 ROCK) will play Dr. Nambue and Sam Vartholomeos (THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY) will play Ensign Connor. THE BAD BATCH---Suki Waterhouse, Keanu Reeves, Jason Momoa and Jim Carrey star in this movie set in the dystopian future where a girl is cast out of civilized society into the hostile desert where she is seized by a band of cannibals. MAN OF THE PEOPLE---Robert Downey Jr. stars in this movie about 1920s radio charlatan Dr. John Brinkley and Dr. Morris Fishbein, who ended Brinkley's fraudulent reign. DREDD---after co-producer Adi Shankar said he was working on a sequel, co-producer Jason Kingsley clarified the situation, “While we truly do appreciate Adi’s enthusiasm for Judge Dredd, he has no involvement with the franchise and any future cinematic or small screen outings. Claims of him pushing forward a sequel to DREDD are not true and we don’t want fans to get excited only to have their hopes dashed. 2000 AD and Rebellion continue to work hard to bring the future’s greatest lawman back to screens.” TALENT---Neal Mortiz (FAST AND FURIOUS) is developing a movie based on the comic book about the sole survivor of a plane crash who inherits abilities from those who died in the crash and is then pursued by a mysterious cabal. BLACK WIDOW---Scarlett Johansson commented on a Black Widow solo movie, “I’ve talked to Kevin Feige about it. We’re creatively really compatible. I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it’s just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself. Marvel has a really huge roster. They’re looking four years ahead." MAYANS MC---Edward James Olmos (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) will star in the FX SONS OF ANARCHY spinoff series. Olmos will play Felipe Reyes, father of EZ Reyes. LUCIFER---Fox renewed the series for Season 3. S.W.A.T.---Stephanie Sigman (SPECTRE) will co-star in the CBS remake series. ARCHIE COMICS---Archie Comics head Jon Goldwater announced a deal with Warner Bros. TV, "It’s part of the plan. Archie is unique in that we have a huge library of characters that are not only recognizable, but they’re successful and entertaining. Everyone knows Josie and Sabrina. Beyond that, we have an entire pantheon of heroes and villains that are perfect for TV or movies. Not to mention Katy Keene, Black Hood, Sam Hill, just to name a few. The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to start talking about what we have coming up." SCALPED---Lily Gladstone will star in the WGN America series based on the comic book. Gladstone will play Carol Red Crow, the estranged daughter of Chief Lincoln Red Crow.

Man of the People sounds promising. Affleck getting out of Batman sounds like theyre screwing up creatively and he wants to jump ship. Pity, he was a good Bats for that rubbish film he was in. DC seem to have few good ideas going ahead with their universe. Jurassic World 2 already sounds like it's trying to suck the joy out if its Dino-action. Who's writing it, PETA?

I can't recall a time I was entertained by an Archie comic or an animated Archie short. Hell, if it wasn't for breif mentions in the culture and the news one time, no one would be talking about Archie and all those memorable characters such as: ???, ???, and ???.

I actually enjoyed Ben more as DAREDEVIL...the director's cut was great, to me.

DC seem to have few good ideas going ahead with their universe. I'm disappointed about Affleck, but who knows why exactly he wants out? He looked like a dead man walking at the Comic-Con thing a couple of years ago--that must have been right after the nanny and divorce tumult he was going through. I suppose there's also the hard work, time, and physical conditioning those movies require. Plus, he'd be locked into the DCU until the next reboot, that is. He was great while he was in the role, though. I imagine that playing Batman is an incredibly grueling, and in many ways not especially interesting role to play. The costume seems torturous, and as much as I love the character, there just aren't that many interesting character journeys to take him on once Bruce Wayne has embraced his role as Batman. Afterwards, it is more about acting angry, deepening your voice, and shooting lots of heavily choreographed action sequences. That said, the role undoubtedly pays extremely well. Don't know what was so bad about BvS; I loved it. Watched it again last night in fact. No one has been able to explain "why" the films and director Zack Snyder are "bad." That is because "bad" is in the eye of the beholder. I can tell you what I like and don't like about the film and its director, but I doubt that will convince you that it is bad. For the record, I wouldn't even call Batman v. Superman a bad film, just a disappointing film.

Archie Comics is probably best known for a certain type of book, but they've shown an awful lot of genre flexibility and are able to tell all sorts of stories. Sabrina the Teenage Witch seems ripe for a non-sitcom CW-style show. Kind of a Buffy-style revolution for that character. The new CW show Riverdale is pretty well done, assuming you have interest in teen melodrama (a genre which, frankly, is rarely well done).

Don't know if it applies to Justin Boggan's neck o' the woods, but where I live , Archie Comics Digests are at just about every supermarket checkout register in town, and no I don't live in Riverdale. Ah, Boggan resides upstate of me; go to any Publix checkout and you'll see those omnipresent Archie Digests. Oh, smarty pants, I've lived more than in one spot. Yes, Archie comics can be found in some stores, but so can countless nameless teen magazines and idiot rags, but unless I want to find 10 Ways to Please My Man or the latest updated of Batboy, I don't read them.
