THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16

THE VOID---teaser trailer released for the horror movie.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTYhFeX7pM4

SUICIDE SQUAD 2---Mel Gibson (HACKSAW RIDGE) is in talks to direct the Warner Bros. sequel. Gibson was asked, “So is this getting close to a deal or is it a first date?", and he replied, “It’s kind of a first date." A source said, "...if Mel wants it, it's his." If Gibson declines the job, other candidates are Daniel Espinosa (SAFE HOUSE), Reuben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND) and Jonathan Levine (WARM BODIES).
Last year, Gibson commented on BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, "It’s a piece of sh*t. I’m not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn’t wear spandex. So I don’t know. Spandex must cost a lot.”
He added, “I look at them and scratch my head. I’m really baffled by it. I think there’s a lot of waste, but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I’d find out different. It seems to me that you could do it for less… You’re spending outrageous amounts of money, $180 million or more, I don’t know how you make it back after the tax man gets you, and after you give half to the exhibitors. What did they spend on BATMAN v SUPERMAN that they’re admitting to?”

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---director Rian Johnson posted a photo of Stormtroopers from the movie.

BONNIE AND CLYDE---sources say BONNIE AND CLYDE stars Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway will reunite for the movie's 50th anniversary and present the Oscar for Best Picture on the 89th Academy Awards which airs on February 26.

HOWARDS END---Starz/BBC four-part miniseries underway based on the EM Forster novel. Hayleyl Atwell, Matthew Macfayden and Tracy Ullman star. The script is by Kenneth Lonergan (MANCHESTER BY THE SEA).

77---synopsis released for the movie based on the James Ellroy script. Jared Leto (SUICIDE SQUAD) is the director.

"Set in politically charged 1974 Los Angeles, the story centers around two police officers who team up to recover kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst while simultaneously investigating the brutal murder of a fellow officer. They uncover not only relentless corruption and crime but a dark and violent conspiracy as well."

THE RAID---the remake of the 2011 Indonesian movie will star Frank Grillo (KINGDOM) and be directed by Joe Carnahan (THE GREY).

SUPERGIRL---Teri Hatcher posted a photo from her villain's costume fitting that hints at the costume she will wear in her battle with Supergirl.

DOCTOR WHO---British bookmaker Ladbrokes said actress Tilda Swinton is the current favorite to be the new Doctor Who at 7/2 odds. Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said, "Whovian punters are becoming increasingly convinced the next Doctor will be female, and fingers are currently pointing towards Swinton.” The previous leader was Ben Whishaw.

RUTHLESS---movie underway about a retired female assassin with terminal brain cancer who takes one last job to provide money for her daughter's future. Steven Spielberg is the producer.

VERSACE: AMERICAN CRIME STORY---Edgar Ramirez (ZERO DARK THIRTY) and Darren Criss (GLEE) star in the FX anthology series about the 1997 murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.

TOM BRADY---untitled movie and book underway about the New England quarterback which will focus on his record comeback victory in Super Bowl LI and the Deflategate scandal. The writers are THE FIGHTER duo of Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson and the BOSTON STRONG duo of Casey Sherman and David Wedge.

THOR: RAGNAROK---director Taika Waititi commented on the tone of the sequel, “I want to take people on an adventure that keeps people laughing along the way, but also has the spectacle.”

NAMOR THE SUB-MARINER---a source in Hawaii claims Marvel Studios will film the movie in Hawaii.

BIOSHOCK---director Gore Verbinski commented on why the movie based on the video game was cancelled, “..we were eight weeks prior shooting when the plug was pulled. It’s an R-rated movie. I wanted to keep it R-rated, I felt like that would be appropriate, and it’s an expensive movie. It’s a massive world we’re creating and it’s not a world we can simply go to locations to shoot...we’d be building an entire underworld universe. So I think the combination of the price tag and the rating, Universal just didn’t feel comfortable ultimately."

GOLIATH---Amazon renewed the series for Season 2.

JAWBREAKER---E! tv series underway based on the 1999 movie that starred Rose McGowan, Julie Benz and Rebecca Gayheart.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY---Ryan Murphy said Season 7 will be based on the 2016 presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

THE only god damned thing worth getting excited about in all the shit mentioned above!

Anyone else here recently (like in the last decade or two) watched this '67 "classic"? For me, it's not aged well, and in fact, I really don't like it much. It too romanticizes people who were nut job sociopaths and asks us to enjoy and find thrill in their crimes, and then, in the end, watch them get shot full of holes -- and in slow motion. I don't hate the movie, but I think its reputation is somewhat unjustified now. Again, I'll bet Thor would vehemently disagree.

77 sounds interesting, has promise.

Mad Mel doing Suicide Squad 2 is pretty crazy, if he does it. The first was utter garbage. But he knows how to put together a decent film, so I'd be interested.

Of course I do, as I do with most everything you say. Love the film! Here's my old thread on it:

Please, no. Every single film Mel Gibson has made so far as a director has been brilliant, and I don't want that to stop with a SUICIDE SQUAD film. I'm not interested in superheroes, and I thought SUICIDE SQUAD was particularly bad even among superhero movies, so please, Mel -- avoid this!

OMG!!!!! The Norwegian "Master of Hyperbole" strikes again!

Every Mel Gibson directed movie is brilliant, Thor? Every one?!!!! Even HACKSAW RIDGE? You find that movie brilliant, really? For me, it was HACKNEYED RIDGE, but you think it brilliant yet found THE SAND PEBBLES to be just "Meh."

(And don't expect me to engage in hyperbole and call TSP "brilliant." I wouldn't even call '68s PLANET OF THE APES brilliant -- and that's my favorite movie!!!)

OK, Thor. Whatever.

I think Gibson will take the SUICIDE SQUAD gig, because what else can you expect from a guy that thinks The Three Stooges is "brilliant"?

But, I think you're "brilliant," Thor. At what I can't say without risking another rebuke from our "brilliant" moderator, but believe me, you Thor are a genius.

Yes, HACKSAW RIDGE was great -- one of the best films last year (clocking in at my 11th place).

HOWARDS END---Starz/BBC four-part miniseries underway based on the EM Forster novel. Haywell Atwell, Matthew Macfayden and Tracy Ullman star. The script is by Kenneth Lonergan (MANCHESTER BY THE SEA).

Haywell Atwell? I imagine that's meant to be Hayley Atwell...?

-----

TOM BRADY---untitled movie and book underway about the New England quarterback which will focus on his record comeback victory in Super Bowl LI and the Deflategate scandal. The writers are THE FIGHTER duo of Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson and the BOSTON STRONG duo of Casey Sherman and David Wedge.

Oh, g*d, really? It's like rubbing salt in the wound. And anyway, while I will acknowledge that the Prats did stage a comeback, they only won because the Falcons' players had some bad plays called for them. So I think a little less brown nosing of Brady might be due.

IAN J.

Thanks. I apparently was more concerned with her photo than her name.

Oh what a "joy" those politcally correct cup sizes. How come fashions change from one side to the other, but looking like a plank still is going strong after half a century?

What? Bloody every current series and film is about glorifying evil, sadism and all other side of human nature that is repulsive, disgusting and vile. That is the way military industrial complexes prepare people for conflicts both foreign and domestic and even make them eager for it.

Which is why I can't stand most "entertainment" produced nowadays.

I made this same argument a while ago on what's not so hot about Star Wars, and did that go over well. The same can be said about Star "space patrol" Trek.
