I can't find it in any of the cd releases I have. Thank you FSM darlings in advance. The version everyone knows wasn't used in the film. This is the original version I'm looking for:
The 93 anthology has the original version, the 97 SE has the film version insert at the beginning of Disc 2 track six 'The Lightsaber'.
Doesn't the '97 SE also have the original version, at the beginning of that 10:57 "suite" along with "The Death of Yoda" and "Obi-Wan's Revelation" (Disc One, track 8)?
Annoying that it's joined with the other two cues, but I think it's there....

Absolutely, I guess I went for anthology because it's in far better sound, but you're certainly right.
1- The 97 Special Edition DOES NOT have the film version at the beginning of Disc 2 track 6, 'The Lightsaber', it's an alternate version, not the film version on the YouTube video I first posted.
2- The 97 Special Edition 10:57 "The Emperor Arrives" Disc 1, track 8 IS NOT the film version.
Now I'm confused. How many versions of "The Emperor Arrives" are there in existence? I thought the 2-disc release (with the exception of some of the missing Sail Barge source music, "Lapti-Nek" and "Ewok Celebration" etc.) was basically complete....

Neither release (Anthology or Special Edition) has the film version. I spent a whole hour yesterday going through all the releases.
OK here's the deal, the cue is question is cue 4M5, titled by Williams simply "The Emperor". (Not to be confused with the album track of that name, which actually contained "12M5 The Emperor's Death".
The original version of 4M5 as originally written and recorded by Williams has been released twice:
On the 1993 Anthology set as Disc 3, Track 6, "The Emperor Arrives"
On the 1997 2CD set as the beginning of Disc 1, Track 8 from 0:00-2:04 again as "The Emperor Arrives".
After that initial version was recorded, two short inserts were recorded to replace sections of the original cue. Those Inserts were edited into the cue in the final film to create the "film version".
The two Inserts are:
4M5X, recorded to replace 0:00-0:20 of the original cue. This was released on the 1997 set at the beginning of Disc 2, Track 6, from 0:00-0:21.
4M5X2, recorded to replace 0:41-1:05 of the original cue. This was released on the 1997 set at the beginning of Disc 2, Track 6, from 0:21-0:48.
So essentially, one can re-create the "film version" using an audio editor and the three different pieces of music available, but a professionally-edited version hasn't been released as it was decided both times to present Williams' original version unaltered.
So, pretty much what I thought... and what Moviedrone said. There was some confusion for me also with the use of the term "original version" to describe the familiar film take(s) used in the youtube clip.
Yeah this was basically assembled from three different compositions ("The Lightsaber", "The Emperor Arrives", "The Lightsaber" again, and the very end of "Emperor's Throne Room" in that order) in the editing room. More likely than not, the finished cue simply doesn't exist on any of the film mixes or session tapes which is why you have to DIY it for a raw version.

Thank you Jason, very well explained. I'm sure the reason for the switch was that John Williams' original was longer than the final edit. I wonder if the composer approved it, if he was even aware of it or cared. I heard him say that he rarely watches the final film once it leaves his hands.
