The man himself is apparently celebrating with a massive worldwide tour -- 85 concerts for each of his year (it started last year)!: http://michellegrandofficial.com/concerts What a stamina! Right now, he's in Dubai. He's looking great too. I think all that stamina is stored in his eyebrows. I love Michel Legrand's music, but very often I love it more "away" from the film than with it. Not always, but sometimes it's like his music is fighting against the images. However, off the top of my head, my favourite scores by him are probably - THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR THE THREE MUSKETEERS THE GO-BETWEEN However, my favourite ALBUM by Legrand is probably "Le Jazz Grand - Michel Legrand and Co.", which is kind of unclassifiable in that Side A of the LP I have is called "Southern Routes" and is - I imagine - a kind of free interpretation of Legrand's own score for the 1978 Joseph Losey film ROADS TO THE SOUTH/ LES ROUTES DU SUD. Not having seen the film, I have no idea if this intepretation is close to what was heard in the film. Whatever, it's absolutely great, and those "and Co." people on the sleeve include Phil Woods, Gerry Mulligan and Art Pepper. I remember getting the LP in '79 because Phil Woods and Art Pepper had played on THE GAUNTLET soundtrack. Here's "Southern Routes" then. I won't do an "attractive big YouTube window" to entice you in, because it slows the loading terribly (and things are slow enough at the moment, plus I don't know how), but listen to this and like it, or forever be some kind of a nut.
