I saw the following news when I woke up this morning. This wonderful actor was in many great movies. He will definitely be missed...

(Fox News)Actor Bill Paxton has died due to complications from surgery, People magazine reported.

He was 61.

“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” a family representative said in a statement. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

Paxton, born in Forth Worth, Texas, had a long and accomplished
career in television and film. Memorable films include “Titanic,” “Aliens,” “The Terminator,” “Tombstone,” “Apollo 13” and “Twister.”

He was also featured in many television shows, including the lead in
HBO’s “Big Love,” the “Hatfield & McCoys." He was most recently cast in the CBS drama "Training Day."

Paxton is survived by his second wife, Louise Newbury, a son, James, 22, and daughter, Lydia, 19.

Bill Paxton survived death at the hand of an Alien, a Predator, and The Terminator only to be felled by conventional medicine. What a ripoff. Here's to you, sir. RIP.

It's pretty much a career high for everyone involved (it's easily Sam Raimi's best film). Shame it STILL isn't on Blu-Ray.

What does this have to do with film scoring? Well, I actually met Bill Paxton--on a film scoring stage, during the scoring of The Greatest Game Ever Played. Paxton actually sat and talked with me during most of the session just because I was a reporter there covering the score. Incredibly nice, generous guy, and a wonderful actor. Miss him already.

Uh...did he have anything to say about film music?

FWIW, it would be more accurate to say that he succumbed to "natural causes," not "conventional medicine." By all accounts, he'd been fighting health problems for at least half a year, and I understand he was suffering from what killed Alan Thicke, which was what sent him into the hospital.

He died from a stroke, which implies it was a blood clot caused by the operation that killed him. Such things may be part of the risks of the kind of heart surgery he had -- the details of which I don't know -- and are most probably not a result of medical malpractice.

However, stay tuned to see if his family brings a lawsuit against the hospital.

But Paxton's death is yet another reminder to us all of how fragile life is... and how fleeting.
