Thanks for asking - in progress along with another film music related book. I'm trying to carve out the time to get them done and into their respective publishers by Summer. Will update more definitively once I've finished. -rdl

Just got around to seeing this. Admittedly I didn't care for the film nor score on the first viewing. Until I got to the last act. Now I think the script is rough- dialogue and characters seem a little wooden but I like what the director tried to do making this minster film closer to Apocalypse Now in its tone instead of another kaiju movie. Jackman's score is a mixed bag for me but not his Kong theme which is almost Mahlerian in its harmonic ambuity and chromaticism. I dig how he never lands on a solid key centre which underlines the moral ambiguity of the title character. The King Kong track is exceptional as is The Grey Fox and I absolutely loved how the film concluded. It actually improved my overall opinion of the film and score.

Btw- great interview! I'm glad Jackman revealed some of the musical approaches to his score and actually felt comfortable speaking in the music vernacular. Great that he used the octatonic scale (a fave of Bartok's) and his explanation of his Kong theme. It's a very unique sound and top marks for actually imbuing it with a more complex tonal spectrum than we normally get from modern scores for this genre.
