May the day come sooner rather than later when a huge butt wipe from space arrives and eliminates man from the face of the earth.

How 'bout a meteor? Can it be a meteor? I much prefer a meteor. Or perhaps a solar flare or something like that.

That would be more spectacular but possibly not as sanitary as Rory Nostradamus' predictions.

Well, since we're fantasizing, why not something admittedly less realistic, but more "fun", like Zombie Apocalypse? We could at least have some fun shooting them in the head (that's what you do, right?) before they ultimately eat us.... wink

Right now, I am considering unfriending a major film composer on Facebook. I know that it sounds silly to make a thread about it but I wanted to get people's opinions on the state of Facebook lately.

The reason I am thinking about doing this is that this major film composer's Facebook is nothing but political posts all day, every day. It's seldom that anything other than a political post is mentioned. I have been unfriending people I know or people I know through film music for the same reasons.

Now, it is not because I may disagree with this composer's politics. It's just I am tired of politics and seeing it. The US election was a killer as my Facebook newsfeed was mostly nothing but the US election (on the left and right).

Facebook has become an outlet for people to find information that conform to their opinions, not the actual facts.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

I don't think this is too political.

You could always 'unfollow' someone, and still remain friends. The other person will never know. I have had to do this for the reasons you list above.

Agreed. I have done the same thing. If and when I want to check in on them I will.

I think Facebook is an addiction. I have a friend that uses it and he complains all the time how miserable the experience is, but he still goes back to it.

And as far as the other thing, stop feeding the Rory! You're playing right into his hands, and he knows it. wink

For some it is a HUGE addiction.

I had to fire an employee a couple of years back. He was actually incapable of NOT being able to stop reading it at work. This cat had FB open on his iPad, his iPhone AND on his PC - at the same f'in time!!

Our company is pretty lenient when it comes to web surfing while working, as long as it does not interfere with your job. With him, it did. He missed constant IM's from co-workers and items that popped in on his computer screen, i.e., things that he needed to keep a monitor on. And when we had our 3rd and final conversation, he said FB kept him from going crazy at work and that he needed it as such...so I told him I had another and more permanent solution to keep him from going crazy while at work. wink

Well, honesty at least, and some historical context:

Facebook founding president sounds alarm http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-41936791

"Speaking on stage to Mike Allen from Axios, Mr Parker said: "The thought process that went into building these applications, Facebook being the first of them, was all about: 'How do we consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible?’"
“That means that we need to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in a while, because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever.
"And that's going to get you to contribute more content, and that's going to get you... more likes and comments.
