I've never seen UNDER SIEGE 2 (or the first one either, for that matter...I know!), but I'm WAY overdue for a new-to-me Poledouris score and the samples sound insanely awesome. I ordered it along with THE WINDS OF WAR.

Definitely see the first one. Definitely skip the second one.

I've never seen UNDER SIEGE 2 (or the first one either, for that matter...I know!).

Forget the first, it's terrible and as over the top as the most cliche idea of a Segal film any ham critic who never saw any Segal film would come up with. Tommy Lee is out of control and the top, as is Busy. Where "Commando" is overthe top in fun and self aware way, "Under siege 1" is boring cack.

"Under siege 2" has better looking settings that, unlike the first, mobile. The opponents are far more creepy in a subdued way, and the music is better. Superior in every way.

Oh, come now. Even Siskel & Ebert gave both films the thumbs up. Siskel actually listed the first Under Siege as one of his top ten films of that year. They're good entertainments, both.

They don't really hold up to their counterparts that came out the same time. The direction is flat, the characters lack depth, Seagal is a charisma black hole, the special fx has aged poorly, and there aren't many memorable lines of dialogue or unique set-pieces to distinguish it from the myriad of other "Die Hard on a _______" films. Highly recommended if you have literally nothing else to watch lol razz

Having said that, I can't stop listening to Basil's score!

Should I get this or wait for Hot Shots: Part Deux-Deluxe Edition? razz
I'm mostly kidding, but I indeed would rather drop money for the latter.

Definitely get this, it's prime Poledouris.

That said, I would also be on board for a Deluxe Edition of Hot Shots: Part Deux as well.

Isn't it more or less the equivalent of Goldsmith scoring those disposable 90's action flicks (Chain Reaction, Executive Decision, etc)?

And a Deluxe On Deadly Ground!

Yavar (who wants every Poledouris score in complete form almost as much as every Goldsmith score in complete form)

I remember how much I hated the vaguely Russian sounding theme to this one years ago when I first heard it. Compared to how strong many of Poledouris's other themes were. Compared to how strong so much of what was currently being written around 2000-2010 was. Now, listening to my old disc, it feels pretty damn strong compared to a lot that’s going I the last few years, which is kinda sad. I'm on the fence about the expansion.

Please work on your mastering, Varese. DMD, use your influence and get them to get their heads right on this issue.

There is no reason not to get this bizarelly beautiful Basil score. It's got the action but the synth stuff is out of this world.

I haven't purchased this yet but was going to soon, is there any muffles in the recording then, you said work needs mastering.

If you have not got this score and you are one of those complainers about the 'modern' age. Get this, the Poledouris work here on synths and orchestra is astonishing.

But perhaps Varese was right in the 90s- we will not pay for this music so they have to release what they can. I bought the album in 1995 and got it again. Let's capitalise on this new resurgence of interest in film music,
