HTSIBWRT has a higher laugh quotient than most "musical comedies." For the film version, Robert Morse, Rudy Vallee, and Michele Lee (in her film debut) reprised their Broadway roles. (During the show's original Broadway run, Michele Lee had taken over the role of "Rosemary Pilkington" from Lois Leary, who had replaced Bonnie Scott, who originated the role.) The film drops five of the stage show's songs. One of these, "Coffee Break," was recorded and appears on the soundtrack album. Another, "Paris Original," is heard as an instrumental during a party scene, and also appears as part of a track on the LP/CD.

I watched How To Succeed at a theatre in Rehoboth Beach, Maryland, during the summer of 1967. I was just 14 years old, and I loved it. Now, at 64, I still loved it!

I viewed this film for the first time about 3 months ago as a rental from Netflix. The reason was that it mentioned on the Netflix site that the choreography was by Bob Fosse. I was intrigued, plus, there were a lot of mostly very enthusiastic reviews on the site. What I discovered was that this film was actually 'MAD MEN: THE MUSICAL'. Even the fact that Robert Morse from this film was indeed in MAD MEN. Someone, somewhere must have been influenced by this film, maybe Matthew Weiner? There was a surprise dancer in the film who's name escapes me, but he was probably the tallest of the Jets Dancers in West Side Story, the film. He was great in this one as well. After the film I wanted to replay the sequence, 'A SECRETARY IS NOT A TOY' just one more time. The film was a lot of fun!

There's a hold-up in the Bronx, Brooklyn's broken out in fights; There's a traffic jam in Harlem That's backed up to Jackson Heights; There's a mother lost her child, Khrushchev's due in Idlewild; Car 54, Where Are You? Blame it on Howard L!

He also provided the singing voice for Russ Tamblyn in the “Jet Song”. Tucker also turned up in the “Hello,Dolly!” movie. He can be seen in the “Put On Your Sunday Clothes” number. Of course, there was another Jet in “HTSIBWRT”. He can be seen on Tucker Smith’s left in this photo..... Tony Teague, who did such a great job as Bud Frump. (Why didn’t he have a bigger career???). Terrific movie,Great Score, Great FUN!
