I'll hopefully be seeing the movie on Monday. Looks like a copycat potpoiler of a number of things, but with great production values.
I primarily know Jon from his previous work with Daniel Espinosa (the director of LIFE), but I'm glad that -- for once -- the director brought the longtime composer with him to his big Hollywood breakthrough. That's rare these days.
It opens in the UK on Friday 24th March. I'll probably give it a go cos the cast looks decent, but the plot does look pretty regurgitated (saw the trailer last night before Kong). Never heard of the scorer, hope he gets a chance to shine.
Shaun, this isn't a remake of the Eddie Murphy comedy drama. This one is set in outer space and is about Mars and alien life forms. Eddie Murphy was in jail...For LIFE.
Yea, and I know all those kids are hip on that Ryan Reynolds cat, but his character feels so shoehorned in here, ya know...!?
His character? I know he's usually typecase as a mouth but he does strive to demonstrate some range sometimes. He managed to carry Buried, he was in Woman in Gold and that Atom Egoyan movie. I think he's trying very hard not to be typecast and to show that he has more talent than he's usually given credit for.

Oh, if only that had been true, then we wouldn't have gotten "Norbit".
All of you funbags - how many posts can one ignore! Let's see if Ekstrand pulls this off, Child 44 was a disaster for all concerned so not hoping for much.
I found the score OK. It was clearly going for an INTERSTELLAR vibe on occasion. Same with the film -- better than I had expected, but still very much an easyweight 'celebration' of genre clichées with pretty good production values. Still, I'm probably going to sample this on album to see how it holds up.
Not as bad as I thought, huge orchestra and some choir, but little compositional ability. The quieter moments are the highlight, the aggressive stuff tends to be repetitive brass blasts on dissonant strings. Nob bad as a whole.
I have to say, it is a terribly boring score, considering all the orchestral forces involved. Just orchestral sound design but no melodies or anything of interest, really.
