A couple of years ago, Spielberg was talking to Anne Hathaway and Chris Hemsworth about doing the movie ROBOPOCALYPSE. It was an exciting novel. However, he wasn't happy with the script so he moved on.

I hope someday, he will circle back to this novel and find a good script. I really enjoy Spielberg in Science Fiction mode.

Yes, ROBOPOCALYPSE sounded exciting. It think budget was also an issue. Spielberg said:
“We found that the film was costing a lot of money and I found a better way to tell the story more economically, but also much more personally. I found the personal way in, and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs. I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.”
But that quote was from January 2013, so...

"Steven Spielberg Pentagon Papers Drama" scheduled to be released by Fox in limited release on December 22, 2017, expanding nationwide on January 12, 2018.
So two williams scores in one week. Merry Christmas :-)

Two new Williams scores in a week, then Ready Player One a few months later.
Life is good smile

Although I have a feeling the Washington Post film will not feature a huge amount of score.
More may be written, but those type of films tend to feature a spare rhythmic pulse, used conservatively.
I don't imagine they will make the same mistake as the Brian Tyler Truth score.
We shall see.

I would be more than happy with a simple piano score with no Americana whatsoever.

I would not be suprised if Williams will focus on THE LAST JEDI and therefore be unable to score THE POST - with Spielberg asking Thomas Newman again to fill in.

It's just an issue I have with this particular genre. I didn't really care for ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN either (sacrilege, I know).

That is so uncomprehendable to me. What exactly is your issue with this genre, Thor?

He generally doesn't enjoy it. It's weird that people keep asking about this. I don't enjoy coffee. You can give me the best cup of coffee in the world, and I probably will still not enjoy it, because I don't enjoy coffee. Different people enjoy different things.

Personal preferences are not debatable, I know.

I just would be interested whether he does not like thrillers or political films - and why.

I doubt LAST JEDI would clash with this one.
From what we are hearing, Johnson is editing it around the Williams score, which is being done now.
READY PLAYER ONE is also well under construction, so a few weeks in November to thrash out a small, piano driven score ala Grusin and THE FIRM sounds like a breeze (even if he is 85).

We all know that our time with new Williams scores is numbered. It's sad but true. I believe he is 85 years old? If we are very lucky, it's possible that we might have another 5, 10...maybe even 15 years of additional work from him. I can't speak for others, and everyone has their own tastes, but Williams is inarguably the greatest composer of film scores we have ever had. All of that is to say that I look forward to and treasure each and every new score from him, regardless of the film he is composing for. I am excited for all of the forthcoming releases.

While I can enjoy a wellwritten dialogue as much the next guy, I'm generally not a big fan of films DRIVEN by dialogue -- especially not if it also includes lots of telephone calls, paperwork and loads of verbal information. I'm more into the audiovisual aspect and potential of films. But as I said earlier, I think Spielberg managed to make something worthwhile out of both LINCOLN and BRIDGE OF SPIES - two dialogue and information-heavy movies. So hopefully he'll be able to do to the same with this.

Thank you! I actually prefer films that tell their story without an over-reliance on dialogue as well.

In the case of ALL THE PRESIDENT´S MEN I do believe that Pakula directed it with the utmost precision and included only the essential dialogue while having Willis´ images tell the story perfectly as well, underlined by Shire´s terrific but sparse score.

Spielberg, IMHO, did not manage to keep LINCOLN from drowning in all the dialogue and posturing by Day-Lewis - but recovered perfectly in BRIDGE OF SPIES which I think is one of his finest films.
