TUESDAY, MARCH 21

MIDNIGHT, TEXAS---trailer released for the NBC horror series.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztFsr4O0jF4

OVERLORD---JJ Abrams/Paramount Pictures World War II supernatural movie underway described as, "On the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success, but as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment." Wyatt Russell (EVERYBODY WANTS SOME) and Jovan Predo (FENCES) star. Billy Ray (THE HUNGER GAMES, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS) and Mark L. Smith (THE REVENANT) wrote the script.
Speculations is that OVERLORD is the fourth movie in Abrams' CLOVERFIELD universe.

STAR WARS---in a BUSINESS INSIDER interviews, Ewan McGregor was asked if he would like to return as Obi-Wan Kenobe, "Listen, I have been asked about it a lot, to the point where it looks a bit like I’m sort of touting for work. I’ve been very open to say I’d be happy to do it, if they want to do it. I think they are set going into the 2030s with their movies, but it would be fun to do, of course I'd be happy to do it."
McGregor added that if he does return, he hopes he’s not “older than Alec Guinness was” when he played Obi-Wan in STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY---writer Gary Whitta revealed the movie's alternate ending, "Jyn did survive. Cassian also survived. There were a lot of casualties on both sides, in both versions of the scripts. We were constantly trying to make all the pieces fit together."
Whitta continued, "The original instinct was that they should all die. It's worth it. If you're going to give your life for anything, give your life for this, to destroy a weapon that going to kill you all anyway. That's what we always wanted to do. But we never explored it because we were afraid that Disney might not let us do it, that Disney might think it's too dark for a STAR WARS movie or for their brand."
He added "We were still scratching the itch that they all needed to die. Chris Weitz [who wrote another draft] thought we were right. They finally went off and fought for it. We told them, we feel they all need to die, and [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy] and everyone else said to go for it. We got the ending that we wanted."

JURASSIC WORLD 2---director JA Bayona posted a photo emphasizing his promise to feature practical effects dinosaurs instead of CGI dinosaurs.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2---EMPIRE magazine released a new photo from the sequel.

THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE---Robert Downey Jr. will star in this Universal Pictures movie which is the latest film based on the Hugo Lofting children's books. Stephen Gaghan (SYRIANA) is the director.

STAR BLAZERS---Skydance Pictures head David Ellison said Zach Dean (DEADFALL) is rewriting the script for the movie based on the SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO anime. Christopher McQuarrie (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-ROGUE NATION) is the director.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS---a source said Paramount Pictures has cancelled the seque starring Arnold Schwarzenggerl, "It is over for The Terminator and Arnold. The studio has taken the sequel off the production slate completely, meaning there is no pre-production or any plans for another sequel. The talent had been offered long term deals, but this is not happening. The Genisys movie was seen as a way of reviving (the franchise), but the critics were not happy and somehow the studio bosses fell out of love with making more, even though they made huge profits.”

RED SEA DIVING RESORT---Chris Evans and Haley Bennett are in negotiations to star in this movie about a Mossad agent who helps evacuate Ethiopian Jews in the Sudan to Israel.

VERSACE: AMERICAN CRIME STORY---Penelope Cruz will play Donatella Versace, sister of fashion designer Gianni Versace who was murdered by serial killer Andrew Cunanan in the FX crime anthology series.

IRAN-CONTRA---Colin Farrell will star in this untitled Amazon miniseries about Col. Oliver North's role in the Iran-Contra arms sale in which the US sold arms to Iran and the profits were given to the Contra rebels in Nicaragua.

THE LOOMING TOWER---Jeff Daniels and Peter Sarsgaard star in this Hulu ten-part miniseries about the CIA/FBI rivalry which may have inadvertently helped the September 11 terrorists attacks succeed.

PHILIP K. DICK'S ELECTRIC DREAMS---Timothy Spall (HARRY POTTER) will star in the first of ten episodes of this Amazon anthology series based on the sci fi work of Philip K. Dick. Spall plays a train station employee who discovers a commuter train is taking its passengers to a town that doesn't exist and into an alternate reality.

AMBERVILLE---Amazon animated series underway based on the MOLLISAN TOWN books which is set in a world populated by living stuffed animals. A reformed criminal teddy bear is asked by his former crime boss to take on a very big job.

MEN IN BLACK 4---director Barry Sonnenfeld commented on the sequel's status, “I wish there were a fourth film. I don’t think Will Smith nor I would be involved. But I love the franchise, because I developed it and created it. But I think the problem with making a fourth film, for a while they were talking about combining 21 JUMP STREET and MEN IN BLACK, [is] there are too many expensive players in the mix. There’s Steven Spielberg, there’s other producers, and I think the way to do it is to have new agents or something like that. Not have me, not have Will, not have Tommy (Lee Jones). Just have other adventures. I wish they would do it, I don’t know if they will.”

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS---Universal Pictures animated movie underway based on the popular 1994 Mariah Carey Christmas song.

THE BIG BANG THEORY---CBS renewed the series for Seasons 11 and 12.

POWER RANGERS---the remake movie's Yellow Ranger (Becky G) is a lesbian which makes her the first gay superhero movie character.

RUPAUL---dramedy tv series underway about a fictionalized account of how the drag queen rose to international stardom. JJ Abrams is the producer.

This and Akira have been in "development" for something like 15 years now. You can't possibly make Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) for a Western audience unless you strip it down to the basic premise. Anyway, the Japanese did an excellent live action version of the anime a few years ago.

Finally, they're concentrating on a film's most important aspect! No, not the script. No, not the writing. No, not the casting, but the sexual preference.

Clearly, no film is complete without that.

Another two seasons of THE BIG BANG THEORY? Oy vey. That show, which I use to love, jumped the shark at least three seasons ago. I still watch it, but I don't know why anymore.

Yeah, it's pretty dippy.

This sounds like a remake of the Norwegian horror movie DEAD SNOW. Surely, it must be? Even the image you posted is culled from that film.

Sorry to hear that. I'm one of the few who kinda liked that film.

Looking forward to the Philip K Dick series, hope it's good! Need a The Hanging Stranger adaption in there somewhere.

Overlord's description doesn't really make me think of Dead Snow, which was just nazi zombies in a modern day evil dead type situation (it was also disappointingly rubbish).

A franchise finally goes down!

.

This is great news. I had long dreamed of a live action film or series and was thrilled that a live action version occurred with the Japanese. But the result was less than overwhelming. The score is superb but the effects subpar and the Gamelon's were less than effective as an antagonist. It was almost embarrassingly bad at times. With Christopher McQuarrie at the helm I'm once again very hopeful.

I enjoyed it a lot more than Salvation.

Couldn't disagree more. Fantastic story, characters, acting, visuals (for the budget they had to work with) and score. Every role was perfectly cast. I found it engaging, moving and heart wrenching. It's my favorite Sci Fi film since Wrath of Khan.
