My #1 holy grail is now a reality:

Available from Laurel Records: http://www.laurelrecord.com ($25.99)

"Laurel Records proudly announces the release of Music From THE RIFLEMAN® Television
Series composed by Herschel Burke Gilbert. The wildly popular Series ran from 1958 through
1963. Reruns continue to this day. Conceived, produced, and directed by the team of Jules
Levy, Arthur Gardner, and Arnold Laven, the show gained a devoted following. Particularly
popular was the music, which was composed by veteran Hollywood composer Gilbert who
had earned 3 Academy nominations for his film scores. So popular was the music that Gilbert
occasionally received more fan mail for his scoring than the show’s star, Chuck Connors. This
2 CD set contains cues originally written for the series (including the original and revised end
titles) remastered from the original audio tapes plus a bonus CD of extras, including selected
cues from Gilbert’s film scores used in the series, as well as vocals and extra materials not used
on-screen. A 24-page booklet explains the history of the scoring and has lyrics to The Rifleman
Song, which has never been heard before this release. Series video is available from LGLProductions
(www.TheRifleman.net). This long awaited CD set of the original music is a must
have for any fan of THE RIFLEMAN®"

I enjoyed the series as a kid, along with many of the other TV oaters. What I loved, and still love, as a grown-up, are the film and TV scores of Mr. Gilbert. This is great news.

PS: He was also a lovely gentleman, and his wife a gracious lady, both of whom I got to meet through Hans Salter.

Wow. This has taken about 10-15 years to happen, correct? Longer? Great news, as a little kid I always enjoyed this show in reruns and its music.

The liner notes on this look terrific. They're both general and cue-by-cue, and what I find hard to find pointed out anywhere except on Jon Burlingame's fuller review is that the Bonus Disc is all music used in The Rifleman which Gilbert had pulled from his film scores for things like While the City Sleeps and Witness to Murder (about 13 of his film scores).

Just got it, and this looks to be a real treat.

Here's the data (no track has film #11!), and the liner notes note that on CD 1, tracks 26-33 also came from a film, The Naked Hills (1956), so we get both a ton of Rifleman music, and a kind of primer on composer Herschel Burke Gilbert!

How’s the sound quality? The website doesn’t seem to have any samples

According to the track by track-analysis in the booklet the tracks 21 and 22 are from "Vice Squad".

This is a beautifully produced album. It's great not only to have the original cues by Gilbert but also the library tracks from his earlier film scores which were made available through the MUTEL library. The in-depth liner notes explain the origins of each track. Some of the original Rifleman scoring was done by Joseph Mullendore, Rudy Schrager and others.

It would have been great to have such a booklet text for the "Adventures of Superman" album on Varese which also used library cues by Gilbert and Schrager.

Yikes. I'll need to get to those. Looks like the numbered list is just off!

Typos. Everybody's got one.
