Finally got this today! I really enjoyed it! The Boston Pops definitely have their own unique sound, and I have become very familiar with it over the years, especially from attending their live performances. This new recording puts them right into my living room. The sound quality is fantastic, about on par with the LA Arts recording for Williams's new Spielberg CD. The performance style is quite different than those guys, maybe a bit less polished, with a more rustic, natural feel. Just compare the Victor's Tale piece from each recording, and it's clear Lockhart's interpretation seems to bring out that crazy clarinet a lot more. The Stargazers is gorgeous, Night Journey's has that sensuous orchestration that makes me hope for a complete score release...

I can only hope that they will do another CD, this time include Fiddler on the Roof, Amazing Stories, The Meet the Press theme, AI, Lost World, and maybe this time a suite to The Last Jedi to end it! wink

Yes, those are great choices. Also some of Johnny's sixties comedies (maybe a medley), plus some unreleased stuff like The Plainsman, The Killers and The Secret Ways. For a wild card, how about Heartbeeps!

Lovely album, and well-programmed. Can't understand the gripes here about the performances, it's like we're listening to different albums. I hear very fine playing throughout, and enjoy both the lightness of touch in many sections and the clarity of individual lines.

At first I thought the Force Awakens end credits wouldn't make sense reprising so much of what has already been heard just a few minutes before. But in fact it works just fine for me, probably because this is some damn fine music from a fella you'd think would have had about enough of this kind of thing. Thank heavens he hasn't!

And while I understand why some are looking for new or unrecorded selections, I find this approach rewarding on its own terms, which is the only way I come to any album.

Just finished listening myself - this is an outstanding effort. Performances are crisp and tight and the digital sound is clear and detailed - especially in the highlights from older scores like Heidi. It's great to hear an old an sometimes overlooked gem like Heidi in state of the art sound.

The Towering Inferno is just perfect here. Nothing more to say. Very energetic and sweeping.

The reworking/expansion of The Jedi Steps is a real treat. Miklos Rozsa and John Williams are the two film composers that have often taken the trouble to rework and expand their popular film works into forms that are suited to concert performance and each time Williams brings a new arrangement to the Hollywood Bowl it's been a thrill to hear and old favorite in a fresh way.

The Force Awakens Finale has all those muscular horns in Rey's music that don't appear in the same way in the Rey's Theme concert arrangement.

In a similar way The Men Of The Yorktown March and Stargazers have been expanded and rejuvenated.

Sabrina just can't be recorded enough times for me. Here we get the original version for piano instead of the version for violin and orchestra recorded previously.

Highly recommended.

RickO, like you I found that Viktor's Tale is better with Lockhart than with the latest Williams.

I call the version from the Williams/Spielberg vol. III album, "The Imperial March of Krakozhia ". The sound take of the clarinet is too close and the tense of the whole piece is way too dramatic. It's supposed to be lighter I think... just like the Lockhart version.

I found the overall sound quality of the Williams III album to be a sonic masterpiece. The recording of Viktors Theme resounded with orchestral colours I hadnt heard before. I hope this version sounds as good.

A sonic masterpiece? The sound take is awefull for soloists and there are some static noise in the mixing of some tracks (ex. Marion's Theme). Recorded in two 2 days, mixed in 2 hours!

Many people have been unhappy with the latest album of the Maestro's work recorded by the LSO, so if you are one of them do check out this wonderful album. Hopefully with enough support we will see a volume 2.

The LSO album, on its own, is rather disappointing, at least in regards to length and content, but at the same time it is a perfect companion piece to the other Williams compilations released last year (the Lockhart CD, and Spielberg/Williams III). It's almost as if the three albums were planned together, and make a great 3-CD set spanning Williams' career. There is very little repetition among the three albums (I think Viktor's Tale and Hymn to the Fallen are the only repeated tracks), and each has a different focus. SW III: the most recent Spielberg music....Lockhart: lesser known works....LSO: the famous crowd pleasers.
