THURSDAY, APRIL 27

ALIEN: COVENANT---new prologue trailer, "The Crossing", is released.

WORLD WAR Z 2---director David Fincher has signed on to reunite with Brad Pitt for the zombie plague sequel. Fincher directed Pitt in SE7EN, FIGHT CLUB and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---sketches released of creatures called Porgs who befriend Luke Skywalker, secluded on the planet Ahch-To, and Chewbacca.
Also, THE LAST JEDI director writer/director Rian Johnson denied rumors that he is writing EPISODE IX, "That's old info, I haven't been involved in writing IX."

THE PREDATOR---photos from the reboot movie filming set show Boyd Holbrook with other cast members on an armored vehicle hunting the Predator in city streets and a "corpse".

MAD MAX---George Miller confirmed that two sequels have been written, with one titled MAD MAX: THE WASTELANDS, “We dug down deep into the subtext, the backstory of all the characters, and indeed the world, and without really thinking about it, we wrote two other screenplays just as part of the bible of the stories.
Somewhere, if the planets align, there will be two other films. A movie like FURY ROAD is told in a very wild, helter-skelter way, so the underlying logic of everything in the film had to be pretty rigorous otherwise the film would’ve been chaotic. So one of the advantages of the many delays was that we were able to spend time getting into these backstories.”
Miller said Doof Warrior will return, “I know who his mother was. I know how it was that a man who is mute and blind survived the apocalypse. I know his story very well! If we get to make another movie, the Doof Warrior will be there! I’m hard-wired for the imaginative life. It’s part of who I am. These characters and these worlds tend to swirl around in the back of your brain like imaginary friends. It’s easy to go back to them.”

GLASS---M. Night Shyamalan posted that his sequel to SPLIT and UNBREAKABLE, his 2000 movie, is underway, “Finished the new script. It’s taken 17 years but I can finally answer the #1 question I get, ‘Are you making a f#&@ing sequel to Unbreakable or what?’ My new film is the sequel to Unbreakable AND Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film.”
Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy are returning for GLASS. The plot has David Dunn (Willis) pursuing Kevin Wendell Crumb (McAvoy) while Mr. Glass (Jackson) lingers in the background.

WINCHESTER---photo released of Helen Mirren starring in the supernatural movie about Sarah Winchester, the Winchester firearms heiress, who believed her huge mansion was haunted by the souls of Winchester firearms victims. A skeptical psychiatrist who investigates the hauntings has second thoughts about his doubts. Jason Clarke also stars.

THE WALKING DEAD---Season 8 will introduce two new characters. Dillon is a sarcastic guy in his 20s. Abbud is a likeable Muslim American. Dillon will reportedly be on the series for some time, and Abbud will have a short life span.
Also, showrunner Scott M. Gimple said Season 8 will address problems from earlier seasons, “By virtue of the fact that the narrative has turned into one of pretty intense conflict, it’s going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck – shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together. … Because we knew the way that 7 was going to be structured, and we knew we wanted to mix it up in 8, and we knew what 8 was going to be and how that would dictate a very different kind of structure anyways. So, yeah, things are going to move, and possibly not have the kind of deep dives into characters in single episodes, but rather laying out the pieces as we go on.”

GLADIATOR 2---Ridley Scott talked about his proposed sequel with Russell Crowe returning as Maximus, "You know I can bring him back, I know how to bring him back. I talked him [Crowe] into how I bring him back. I used the [body] of a dying warrior as a portal to bring somebody back."
Sources who saw Nick Cave's sequel script said Maximus is in the afterlife where he meets various gods and returns to the real world through the body of a slain Christian martyr. He discovers that Lucius, the son of his ex-lover, Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), is murdering Christians. He also discovers his son Marius is not really dead and is now a Christian. Maximus then leads the Christians against Lucius. Maximus also reunites with Juba (Djimon Housou). The sequel has two epic gladiator battles with the first having gladiators on ships battling alligators. The second has Lucius killing Juba, and then Maximus hacks Lucius into shreds as Marius finishes him off by shooting an arrow into him.
Scott said the sequel is unlikely because Crowe may be too old and the script is, "on a shelf at DreamWorks."

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN---Ewan McGregor will star in the Walt Disney Pictures biomovie about Christopher Robin Milne, the son of AA Milne, who was his father's inspiration for Christopher Robin in Winnie-the-Pooh.

BLESSED VIRGIN---Paul Verhoeven (TOTAL RECALL, BASIC INSTINCT) will direct this movie based on the book IMMODEST ACTS which is about the 17th century nun Sister Benedatta Carlini, whose claims of witnessing miracles were proven to be false and her lesbian affairs with other nuns, led to her being imprisoned for 35 years. Virginie Efira, who co-starred in Verhoeven's ELLE, will play Carlini.

NARNIA: THE SILVER CHAIR---Joe Johnston (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, THE ROCKETEER) will direct the Sony Pictures/Tristar reboot movie. David Magee (LIFE OF PI) is the writer.

TRUST--Hillary Swank has joined the cast of the FX/Danny Boyle miniseries about the 1973 kidnapping of oil heir J. Paul Getty III. Swank will play Getty III's mother, Gail Getty, who negotiates with the kidnappers and her father-in-law, oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, to pay her son's ransom.

HE-MAN---director McG is no longer involved with the Sony Pictures reboot movie. David S. Goyer is the writer.

SCREAM---Season 3 for the MTV series will be rebooted with a new cast and producers.

Gladiator 2

Directed by Paycheck Scott. My gosh, there is nothing left of the artistic or creative dignity of Ridley Scott.

Very interested in World War Z 2 with Fincher attached, I enjoyed the first. The Gladiator sequel sounds terrible so I'm glad that'll be a no-go. Scott Gimple and the Walking Dead - he's just realised that characters should be revealed through actions as opposed to info dumps of dull exposition between two people. The quality of writing on that show needs to improve immeasurably. I'd be up for some Mad Max sequels. Fury Road was decent fun.
