I know Brian Tyler Bates are oftimes verboten on FSM, but who are the fans and what are your fave scores/releases from this series?

Of the roughly 83 hours of music Tyler has crammed into his 5 scores of the series, I find roughly 7 minutes of it essential: Togue/Tokyo Drift. There are some fun tracks in other scores, and a few decent dramatic cues, but almost all of the action later on is lesser variations on that theme, and the drama has been done better elsewhere.

Anyone else think that a Silva collection of cues from the FAST AND THE FURIOUS series is long overdue?

I absolutely love the film series, but aside from the Dom / Letty guitar-led theme and the generic percussion / brass motif used whenever the team is driving in formation or coming together in a room, I can't really recall much of the scores otherwise.

Their song selection however, is fantastic. I find these films are better scored with the songs they've chosen for each film.

I like BT's score for the first one.

Yes sir, unashamed fan of Tyler's scores for these films for sure. My favorites in order from most to least (haven't heard Fast 8 yet):

Fast 5 (faves: Train Heist, The Perfect Crew, Convergence, The Vault Heist, Hobbs)
Fast 7 (faves: Battle of the Titans, Beast In a Cage, Vow for Revenge, The Three Towers)
Fast 4 (faves: Landtrain, Letty, Brian and Mia, Amends, Dom vs. Brian)
Fast 3 (faves: F&F: Tokyo Drift, Neela Drifts, Neela, DK vs. Han)

I disagree with others that there is not enough diverse variation throughout the scores, I think it grows and expands; it revisits previous themes and motifs of course but develops satisfactorily (for scores like this) and you pretty much know what you're going to get and can just enjoy the badass tunes.

There are certainly dud tracks on each score, meandering ambient suspense cues that don't do much for me, but there is just such a wealth of fantastic action music with really top-notch electronic integration and vicious intensity.

My biggest gripe is the addition of choir to the scores beginning with Fast 7 but that's personal taste of course. I just think it has no place whatsoever, ugh.

I love how much shit these scores (and Tyler) get on this forum, it's hilarious. Some people have a envy-for-vendetta against the guy and of course some people have nothing better to do than throw internet grenades because they like when they can make something go boom on...a film score discussion board.

Thanks for your enthusiasm, Dep. I just made a playlist of those cues so we'll see how that goes.

Cool. It's actually a really good mix of different moods and styles and a good representation of everything that Tyler has written for the series -- but definitely don't just listen to them in the exact order that I posted them if you can help it, i.e. all Fast 5 in a row, all Fast 7 in a row, etc. Try to shuffle them all the best you can for an optimal mix. smile Hope you enjoy, post back here with your thoughts!

That's Deputy! Great list. Will definitely need to give these a preview and look into getting them. If only some of the earlier films had score albums.
