MONDAY, MAY 15 THE PREDATOR---photo taken on the reboot movie filming set is the first look at the two Predators on an armored personnel carrier with other cast members. The plot involves the classic Predator, possibly teaming up with human mercenaries, to destroy a genetically-enhanced Predator. GAME OF THRONES---George RR Martin posted on the HBO spinoff series, “What we’re talking about are new stories set in the “secondary universe” (to borrow Tolkien’s term) of Westeros and the world beyond, the world I created for A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE…None of these new shows will be ‘spinning off’ from Game of Thrones in the traditional sense. We are not talking Joey or AfterMASH or even Frazier or Lou Grant, where characters from one show continue on to another. So all of you who were hoping for the further adventures of Hot Pie are doomed to disappointment. Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel. Some may not even be set on Westeros. Rather than ‘spinoff’ or ‘prequel,’ however, I prefer the term ‘successor show.’ That’s what I’ve been calling them.” He added, "I do think it’s very unlikely that we’ll be getting four (or five) series. At least not immediately. What we do have here is an order for four — now five — pilot scripts. How many pilots will be filmed, and how many series might come out of that, remains to be seen. (If we do get five series on the air, I might have to change my name to Dick Direwolf).” Martin also said, “We’re not doing Dunk & Egg. Eventually, sure, I’d love that, and so would many of you. But I’ve only written and published three novellas to date, and there are at least seven or eight or ten more I want to write. We all know how slow I am, and how fast a television show can move. I don’t want to repeat what happened with GAME OF THRONES itself, where the show gets ahead of the books. When the day comes that I’ve finished telling all my tales of Dunk & Egg, then we’ll do a tv show about them… but that day is still a long ways off.’ “We’re not doing Robert’s Rebellion either. I know thousands of you want that, I know there’s a petition… but by the time I finish writing A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, you will know every important thing that happened in Robert’s Rebellion. There would be no surprises or revelations left in such a show, just the acting out of conflicts whose resolutions you already know. That’s not a story I want to tell just now; it would feel too much like a twice-told tale.” mother!---poster released for "mother!" showing Jennifer Lawrence holding her own bloody heart. The plot involves a couple whose relationship is threatened when uninvited guests show up. Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfieffer, Ed Harris and Domhnall Gleason also star. Darren Aronofsky is the writer/director. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES---poster released shows Paul McCartney in an undisclosed role. OKJA---poster released for the monster movie about a South Korean girl whose pet monster is taken by a conglomerate to its New York headquarters where its ambitious CEO has big plans for the creature. Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Steven Yeun and Lily Collins star. HAN SOLO---Woody Harrelson commented on his character, "I am totally psyched to be making a 'Star Wars' film. But the secrecy is on another level. What I can say he's a good character, he is a mentor to Han and a criminal, but good at heart," KING OF THE JUNGLE---Johnny Depp will play cybersecurity magnate John McAfee in this movie about McAfee moving to Belize where he was caught up in a scandal of sex, drugs and the possible murder of his neighbor. FOX---photo released for the Seth McFarlane sci fi comedy THE ORVILLE in which the spaceship Orville explores outer space 300 years in the future. Adrianne Palicki co-stars. Fox renewed NEW GIRL for Season 7 which will be the last season. It also renewed THE EXORCIST and BROOKLYN NINE NINE. It cancelled SCREAM QUEENS. The network's two live musicals are based on the 1983 movie A CHRISTMAS STORY which starred Darren McGavin and the Broadway musical RENT. ABC---renewed SPEECHLESS and FRESH OFF THE BOAT. CBS---renewed CODE BLACK and ELEMENTARY. It cancelled CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS, DOUBT and THE GREAT INDOORS. NBC---NBC has changed its mind about cancelling TIMELESS and renewed it for Season 2. It also renewed LAW & ORDER: SVU. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT---Jason Bateman posted he's returning, "Look very probable I'm going to put some miles on the Stair Car this summer. Just officially signed on to more ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT today." THE SON---AMC renewed the Pierce Brosnan series. DOCTOR WHO---two new candidates were reported to be possible replacements for Peter Capaldi: Luke Treadway and Sacha Dhawan. THE DEVIL AND FATHER AMORTH---William Friedkin (THE EXORCIST, THE FRENCH CONNECTION) documentary about the real exorcism performed by Father Gabriel Amorth and its connection to Friedkin's THE EXORCIST. KEEPER OF THE DIARY---Kenneth Branagh (THOR) is in talks to be the star/director of this movie about Anne Frank's father, Otto Frank, and his struggle to get his daughter's diary about the Holocaust published. BRUISED---Blake Lively stars in this movie about a MMA fighter who comes out of retirement to make ends meet and keep her son. BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL---director Takashi Miike commented on his 100th movie which will be released in the US, “It is a Samurai Action about an immortal warrior. Love and tears splatter with arms, legs and heads that are chopped and splattered. I hope the audience will be prepared for this and enjoy the film.” GLORIA---Julieanne Moore will star in the US remake of the Chilean movie about a middle-aged woman who seeks companionship in Los Angeles dance clubs for singles.

As usual, it appears Mr. Martin is more involved with other projects. I seriously wonder if he'll ever finish his proposed novel cycle. He certainly doesn't seem to be putting much time into it. Part VI, "The Winds of Winter," was supposed to be published over a year ago, but has been continually delayed, because he can't tear himself away from these other projects long enough to finish it. And I still wonder if he'll live long enough to do it.
