I have the three CDs from Silva, with Grainer's music and library music. Since then, there was a three-CD set featuring only Grainer's music. From what I've read, this was presented in a user-unfriendly format, similar to that used on the Dark Shadows box set. There was also a three-CD set of library music. I suspect that the Silva discs will be enough Prisoner music for me, for this lifetime at least. As it is, I find the village brass band music insufferable on its own terms. I ended up placing the best music from all three discs onto a single CD-R. I believe I used mostly music from File #2, but I would need to check. Having said all this, I would be interested to hear from Prisoner experts if they feel that the Silva discs are a reasonably good representation of this music, or if there were any particular glaring omissions that should have been included.

There was also the Unmutual set released in 2010. Limited edition of 1,000 copies sequentially numbered. Factory sealed 3 CD set. 56 page booklet containing an episode by episode, scene by scene listing of all the music (library, original soundtrack and commercial tracks) used in the series. Additional sleeve notes with special introduction by Eric Mival, music editor – No. 2 to the original TV series. Special DVD case packaging. 174 minutes of music. http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/2318/Prisoner%2C+The I actually not only found this to be just as essential to have as the Network set, I also found it a much easier listen. This is because the library cues are presented in their entirety and organized generally by episode. The Network set, which was the first of their mammoth releases, suffers from "first time out / kitchen sink syndrome." It works as an archive, but as a listening experience, it's awful. No other set came off like that other than maybe The Protectors. However, thanks to having both box sets, I was able to reconstruct "Arrival" and it's a fine score reassembled. And the library music isn't all brass band. In fact, very little of it is. The Silva CDs have much of it. A lot of the library cues are really entertaining in their own right.

I have all three of the Silvas, and all three of the ones called "File #...". Same series, right? Hmmm. All I know is that one group of three of them are called called "Volume 1, 2 and 3" --- I bought these very early on (90s) --- and the other group of three was issued later with a different track sequence and are called "File #1, 2 and 3". Is that what you mean? All six are soundtracks to Patrick McGoohan's TV series, 'THE PRISONER'. Unfortunately, they're in a box somewhere and I don't have them handy to check specifics.... Good lord, who knew that the music for a TV show that only had 12 or whatever episodes could be so confusing! I have three discs on Silva Sreen that are titled File #1, 2, and 3. Am I understanding correctly that there were two different series of three individual discs?

I got the very first release on vinyl, I think it's a label called Bam Caruso? I then got the original Silva cds of vols 2 & 3. Didn't get 'round to getting the first one on cd and then they seemed to be superseded by these 'File' things. Am I right in saying they have dialogue on them? Not really the kind of thing I want. So I still have the three in two different formats. Anyway, if I had got the first on cd I'd be happy with them. The Network stuff does seem a bit daunting and I fear I'd never listen to them. I looked at the other ITC stuff that was released that way and was put off by the presentation, which seemed basically nil. I'm happy for the purists who want EVERYTHING but that ain't me. Oh, AND I dragged my feet in getting the cutdown releases which WERE more up my street. But they're sold out now. Does anyone know if the others like the Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) ones were a good representation of the shows' soundtracks? They had track listings which looked identical top the complete releases. All looked a bit 'bitty'.
