I know they suggested some giant alien mega structure is blocking the light, or a broken up planet is doing the same. But clearly Krypton orbits this star, and it's about to explode!

It's funny how "without aliens" still gets around to alien megastructures. It is also interesting how all the proposed explanations for Tabby's star involve some form of occultation—comets, interstellar dust clouds, etc. What if the star itself is variable?

"Impossible! Stars don't vary like that."

FG Sagittae (and many other stars) "impossibly" move up and down the H-R diagram. A better example might be XX Trianguli (HD 12545) which has a "spot" covering about a third of its surface. It's a little hard to tell what the story is with Tabby from this distance—and even the distance is indefinite.
