"Emperor's Throne Room" from disc 2 of the 1997 special edition has my favorite passage. When the Emperor says "Your faith in your friends is yours" the theme swells behind the dialogue in this scene. I do find myself whistling "Luke And Leia" the most! I started to warm more to Luke and Leia when it was on By Request. It's funny, more than any other Star Wars theme that one (in the end credits) brings me back to my house in 1983. Locked solid in place and time. My favorite use of L&L was the opening credits for the video game X-Wing Alliance! Favorite theme? Good grief. What an embarrassment of riches! Um, Ben's theme? Han Solo and the Princess? Vader's Theme from Star Wars (not the Imperial March)? C'mon, the Imperial March is pretty terrific, right? Luke's theme is the gold standard as well, of course. It's the perfect marriage of music and film, but is also an hugely exciting cue on its own. Perfect in every way. The Asteroid Field is like Ben's Death and TIE Fighter Attack where I have almost no use for the concert arrangement. The more narrative heavy arrangements in the film are so perfect. They are the most amazing little nuggets of themes and story. I was also thinking yesterday that as terrific as the pieces for the Hoth battle are, or even the end chases / duels in Empire, nothing can beat The Last Battle from Star Wars. In a rare contradiction to my norm, I really LOVE the version in the end credits of ROTS on the soundtrack album.
