Hhmmm ... but, Onya, how does your mind decided on what kind of album it is if you've never heard of it before my post?

I buy records based on a combination of experience with the music, knowledge of the artist, knowledge of the genre, the track titles, the cover art, and the price, in varying ratios. I decide based on a single spin whether I keep it or unload it. If I keep it, it may be years before I spin it again.

I made my own fantasy album version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

I used the McNeely CD.

I got rid of the two Arlington tracks, which break the mood.

I combined several of the shorter cues, sometimes not in the film order.

I included the rejected track, "Solar Diamonds"

I tightened up the crossfades, which are always the worst parts of any McNeely Herrmann album. So, for example, the final chord of the main title sustains over the opening piano ostinato of "Radar," which is in the same key.

I combined the main title and the finale to produce a longer finale.

I adjusted the dynamic range using compression and limiting.

I like the CD I produced more than any of the available versions (all of which I have).

As you know, in his own suite Herrmann also eliminated the Arlington cues, probably for the same reason you did. Me, I'm very glad those cues were made available elsewhere, because even if their mood differs from the main body of the score it's a beautiful mood, one I treasure. They certainly would fit the mood on an album of Americana music, film score or otherwise.

I placed them in a playlist with some of the more Americana moments from Citizen Kane, Devil and Daniel Webster, and Trouble with Harry.
