It will definitely be interesting from many directions, obviously including music, where these films will go as they become more and more distant from the original films.
So who's gonna score it? I hope nobody forget Joel McNeely ! SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE was brilliant. Also we can expect from David Arnold a truthful big STAR WARS score.
My intense dislike of Giacchino's pandering, monaural music aside, I really do hope that they select different composers for each of the Anthology films... Nearly every working composer has been influenced by John Williams in some way or another, and I think it would be more fun to hear how different people approach the material than to have one guy do them all. They're getting different writers and directors for each of the spin-off movies (and they do not have any continuity with one another)... so why not different composers?
We _know_ what Giacchino doing Star Wars pastiche sounds like. It's roughly 85% of what he's always done. I'm more interested in hearing how a John Powell or a Mark Mancina or an Alan Silvestri or a Mark Mothersbaugh or a Theodore Sharpiro would do on one of these movies.
Mothersbaugh is the likely candidate. But I expect the outcome of Thor 3 to play a bigger role in this chances than his history with the directors. Let's see how that goes.
Personally I want David Arnold on this - in his StarGate/ID4 mode, that is. Unlikely but worthy dreaming!
I'm hoping for someone new to Star Wars films too. James Newton Howard, Steven Price, Joel McNeely, Don Davis, Silvestri, Broughton... I'd love to have heard Horner do Star Wars, but that won't happen now.
