A Special Collectors Edition 2-CD Set featuring one of the greatest film scores from the Composer of THE ALAMO * HIGH NOON * LOST HORIZON * THE GUNS OF NAVARONE * THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE * DIAL M FOR MURDER * GUNFIGHT AT THE O.K. CORRAL * IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE * RIO BRAVO * GIANT * FRIENDLY PERSUASION * 55 DAYS AT PEKING * RED RIVER.
Perhaps the most infamous western of the “Golden Age of Hollywood,” DUEL IN THE SUN (nicknamed “Lust in the Dust”) starred GREGORY PECK, JENNIFER JONES, JOSEPH COTTEN, LIONEL BARRYMORE, LILIAN GISH and WALTER HUSTON.

It featured a vast, unfettered score by the master of musical melodrama, Dimitri Tiomkin. The composer relied heavily on the leitmotif method to structure his sprawling score, creating numerous memorable themes that are by turns majestic, homespun, sensual and threatening. For a touch of genuine Americana, he also wove Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer” into the fabric. When the music takes center stage in the picture, the result is thrilling! One of the most extravagant yet brilliant film scores ever written – restored to its full glory!

• Premiere Recording of the Complete 100-minute Score

• Bonus: DUEL IN THE SUN Concert Suite

• Deluxe 2-CD Set with Full-Color Booklet including stills and posters from the movie

• Gorgeous Cover Artwork by Jim Titus

• Newly Recorded in Stunning and Dynamic 24-Bit 96kHz Digital Sound

Looks really great and the clips sound fantastic, and I see you included the roadshow music. I can hardly wait to get this. Quick question, is the concert suite included here the same that was recorded in Prague years ago or is it an entirely new suite?

I'm neither familiar with film nor score and was therefore on the fence about this one. Those videos sold me. Especially the "Casino Dance".

It's those videos on Tadlow that always sell me on the score. Yikes. Can't wait to hear the entire score. I'm loving the "Casino Dance" video. And you can't beat that cover art.

WONDERFUL ! And the gunshots in the opening that I mentioned many months ago were there.
And the casino dance at the Orizaba is truly "orgasmic". The sexual frenzy connoted in that dance is great Dimitri Tiomkin. Yes indeed ! Wonderfully, wonderfully over the top. Will be counting the days until it is in the mailbox.

First video didn't sell me, but then I'm not usually a fan of Tiomkin's music. But then I listened to Casino Dance...gotta say the title didn't exactly prepare me for how exciting that was going to be! That, plus the *best cover artwork of any Prometheus release, ever* ... plus the fact that Tadlow/Prometheus should be supported so that these important recordings can continue (please don't let this be the last one you fund, Luc!) -- well, let's just say that I talked myself into buying it.

From now on I proclaim the last week of May Holy Grail Week !
First we had the release of Steiner's The Cain Mutiny and now finally Tiomkin's masterpiece Duel In The Sun.
Thanks again to James, Nic and our friend Luc Van de Ven of Prometheus Records in Belgium to make it happen.

Ordered at SAE !

Only one wish from my part gentlemen to record: Frank Skinner scores for the Douglas Sirk movies,

I am genuinely surprised how many people here have never seen 'Duel In The Sun'. And people who consider themselves film music fans.
I'll bet if you actually watched more of his films, you might become a fan. You might even find that you like him more than Rozsa.

FYI...Duel in the Sun will be released on Blu Ray by Kino probably in the fall if not sooner.

Wow! The Casino Dance reminded all over again of why I fell in love Tiomkin's music. Nobody, but nobody could go over the top like he could. I'm going to get a lawn chair and a couple of beers to go out and wait by my mailbox.

(And if you want to hear the sheer range of what he could do, listen to the Main Title of The Big Sky.)
