8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Nicolas Magenham.

In collaboration with EMI Music Publishing France, Music Box Records presents the remastered and expanded edition of Michel Colombier’s score to the 1974 drama film Le Hasard et la Violence (Chance and Violence), starring Yves Montand and Katharine Ross, and directed by Philippe Labro (The Inheritor, Hunter Will Get You).

This drama film stars Yves Montand (The Wages of Fear, Grand Prix, Z, Jean de Florette) and Katherine Ross (The Graduate, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Stepford Wives). It tells the love story between a criminologist (Montand) and a fellow doctor (Ross). For the movie’s cold atmosphere, Michel Colombier composed a romantic score with dramatic variations on the same theme and beautiful writing for strings. The title song is performed by Drupi.

Supervised by Claudio Fuiano, the greatly expanded score for Le Hasard et la Violence has been fully remastered from the recording session tapes and includes previously unreleased tracks.

The package includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Nicolas Magenham, discussing the film and the score.

L'HOMME EN COLÈRE (THE ANGRY MAN) •
UN PAPILLON SUR L'ÉPAULE (BUTTERFLY ON THE SHOULDER)
Two Original Motion Picture Soundtracks
Music Composed and Conducted by Claude Bolling

World Premiere CD release.
Remastered and expanded edition.
8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Gilles Loison.
Limited Edition of 300 units.

Ref: MBR-115
Release Date: June 12, 2017

In collaboration with Claude Bolling and Gruppo Sugar, Music Box Records is pleased to present on the same CD the expanded original motion picture soundtracks of L’Homme en colère (The Angry Man, 1978) and Un papillon sur l’épaule (Butterfly on the Shoulder, 1979), composed and conducted by Claude Bolling. French actor Lino Ventura stars in both movies.

L’Homme en colère tells the story of Romain Dupré who visits Canada in search for his son, involved in criminal activities. The film is directed by Claude Pinoteau (La Boum, La Septième Cible) and stars Lino Ventura, Angie Dickinson and Laurent Malet. Claude Bolling composed a score with eclectic moods between a very romantic theme and several source music,

Un papillon sur l’épaule tells the story of Roland Fériaud who, knocked out after witnessing a murder, wakes up in a private hospital and finds himself plagued with nightmares. For the film directed by his long-time collaborator Jacques Deray (La Piscine, Borsalino), Claude Bolling composed a very short score based on a shady theme for saxophone and piano. He also wrote a second theme, played on the guitar by Alexandre Lagoya.

This present edition features the remastered original LP program for L’Homme en colère (previously issued by RCA), including 2 unreleased tracks, and the complete but short score for Un papillon sur l’épaule. The package includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the films and the scores.

Excellent news, both releases smile maybe Robin Coudert too.. Planetarium was such a nice score, I liked it very much. I'll probably snag all 3. Thank you, Music Box.. Well-done.

LE HASARD ET LA VIOLENCE (CHANCE AND VIOLENCE)
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Composed and Conducted by Michel Colombier

I only stumbled upon this yesterday, and I still feel stunned and speechless today that this little masterpiece has become reality eek Much cherished ever since I first heard the 14 minutes from this score on the Écoutez le Cinéma combo with L'Alpagueur and L'Héritier (still an excellent buy, too), it has remained one of my all time favourites ever since then.

Thank you so much, Music Box Records and Claudio Fuiano! A dream come true after I never ever considered this to be even possible! Euphoric! Exclamation mark!

Whenever I read the name COLOMBIER, I think it is now time for a overdue CD release of his 1970 science fiction masterpiece COLOSSUS : THE FORBIN PROJECT !
So many good classic science fiction scores are released in the last 20 years:
ANDROMEDA STRAIN, THE OMEGA MAN, PHASE IV, at last SILENT RUNNING from Intrada and next DOPPELGÄNGER(JOURNEY TO THE FARE SIDE OF THE SUN) from Fanderson. I hope its now also time for a COLOSSUS score release and we must not wait for a 40th anniversary release.
If not LA-La-Land-Records or Intrada want release it, then it may be a good project for Music Box or Quartet Records.

It's good to see expanded versions of soundtracks that already appeared on the "Écoutez le Cinéma" compilations. I hope that one label will release a complete version of "Une Corde, Un Colt". Even the hard to get LP contains much more music than the André Hossein compilation.

I received my CD of Le Hasard et la Violence a few days ago directly from Music Box Records. It adds several important music tracks. I am so glad for this new Colombier score!!

I don't know if there is a connection (Music Box?), but in early September the French Studiocanal company plans to issue L'ALPAGUEUR and L'HERITIER on Blu-Ray, both movies directed by Philippe Labro (as is Le Hasard...). While I am not aware that in L'ALPAGUEUR any music is missing on the Ecoutez Le Cinema CD, there definitely is quite some music missing in L'HERITIER.

Therefore, my guess is we will get an expanded or complete L'HERITIER CD from Music Box Records in the near future. Just an educated guess, I am not in the know...

And just in case any CD company has access to the master tapes, please finally release Colombier's score for COP (1985) starring James Woods!

If there's one more Colombier that can be released. I'd recommend "Un monde nouveau" (1966) from Vittorio de Sica.

As for Bolling, I'd be happy with Flic Story (1975) with Delon and Trintiguant.
