Corrie always did comedy pretty well.

I've invented a joke, you see, and I wanted to try it out on somebody familiar with EASTENDERS (I don't watch it myself, but with the missus, it's impossible not to catch some of it from time to time, as she is a casual soap viewer).
Anyway, here goes...
What musical instrument does Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) play when he wants you to leave the room?
GeeeeeTaaarrrrrrr!!!

...too stressful, one argument scene after another.
It gets me on edge when i enter the room and its on.
At least coro used to have humour. Eastenders is utterly humourless, miserable and depressing.

Oh, so it's just like the FSM board.

I don't think Coronation (Chicken Sandwich) Street has ever aired here in the U.S., though I'm pretty sure Eastenders has since day one whch was when, 1987? Yeah, it's played here for decades.

I love it when we get all cultural here at the footie thread during international breaks! Can we discuss those deligytful meat pies, too?

Eastenders started in 1985 in the UK I think. While we're at it, did any of you watch Emmerdale or even Crossroads? smile

1985? Okay, so we're two years behind; right on schedule!

I've caught various soaps down the years. It's hard not to, I suppose, as they dominate (or did dominate) telly so much.
I hate Eastenders for all the reasons Bill notes above.
Corrie used to be ok, but it's become tiresome over the years with serial killers and recycled storylines.
I do have an affinity towards Emmerdale (which the missus likes the best, so is watched the most).
It has the better characters, more interesting plot lines and some decent humour too (although it's a looooonnnng way from the old Emmerdale Farm of yesteryear).

Do any of you boys direct an ear toward The Archers?

Nope. I watched a bit of Emmerdale Farm (when it was still known as such) and the imperial years of Neighbours (which is probably unknown to Jim and the US). Don't think I've heard a single episode of The Archers.

I used to tune in if there was an 'event' storyline. Such as in Eastenders when Grant Mitchell found out his wife had had an affair with his brother Phil. The BBC built that up to the nth degree. Also the 'body under the patio' and 'killer bug' storylines in Brookside.

I was a big fan, listened to it from around 1970 unto a few years ago, when they had a storyline about an evil husband driving his wife mad, it didn't make easy listening & went on for far too long, & I sort of got out of the habit of listening to it. I have been watching Eastendes, I have to watch it when I visit my mother, as she's addicted to it, but when I watch it, it's for all the wrong reasons...it's terrible, no logic, lots of loose ends & everyone who lives in the square is so stupid they're nearly brain dead. Come to think about it, it is quite fun.

Only Neighbours and Home & Away could provide true quality such as your Minogue, Imbruglia, Miller, etc, that would make any starting 11.

We might as well talk about TV soaps, bloody international break this weekend, I hate those. We're going to Russia for the World Cup (it's only fair that Russia still hold it, after all, they paid for it, probably in cash), but we're going to show those swines by losing every game, just as a protest you understand.

...& it's about time another manager got the sack smile

China vs Wales at 11:35am in the morning. Weird feeling.

Can watch live if you so choose.

I'd put this in the World Cup thread but Wales aren't going, so...

China has over a billion people, and they're not going either.

I can see why. 0-4 down already. A billion people?

A nice easy start for Giggs.

There was a spell of about four years in the mid-80s when I did, because my then girlfriend was a big fan, having been raised on it. My listening habits changed when we broke up, and I've maybe heard it a dozen times since then. The interesting thing is that when I do catch it once every few years it's like I've never been away. The storylines and characters seem the same as they did over 30 years ago. Obviously David and Ruth must be much older now, but as their characters were/are contemporaneous with me I suppose I identified with them a little.

Sorry that Nigel fell off the roof, I rather liked him.

Normal footie service will now be resumed. Or rather it won't due to the international break. I welcome it this time around, though, because we were so bad before it there's a chance we might come back refreshed and capable of winning the odd game.

I was in a bar, and the holland england game was on.
Since sven made a mockery of them i dont bother with friendlies as a rule. I mustve looked up at the tv about a dozen times. It looked like two fairly drab and uninspiring teams.

I think it was March 2016 that England played Germany in a friendly and won 4-1. We all know what happened three months later. This is why friendlies are totally irrelevant.

Reading get a new manager - that's not good for us. Was hoping they'd continue to drop like a stone. I'm sure they'll rally.

Fairly slow pace in the england italy friendly.
We do seem to think friendlies mean a lot yet our oppo usually treat them as a stroll about practice match that doesnt matter if they lose it.
Watched about 15 mins, england are 1 up but i havent seen italy test us yet.
