I was thoroughly ragged on by people I’d thought of as friends up to that point, when I dared to strike a semi-positive note about Covenant (see Movies 1-10 thread, April). I hope those same people now realise that I was right all along. Huh!

I watched it again last night. Sure, it's mostly meant to please fans of the original, with a strong semi-Ripley-ian character. But the entire Walter/David thing is very interesting to me, and I must admit the Giger thing is great, period. So it's a fan pleaser.
I've been a fan since the first movie came out and rocked everyone, hard.
My main point about user reviews is this: Viewers are a lot more thoughtful and insightful than the screen writers or professional critics who praised the film. Don't be so dismissive or superior to your fellow film fans - the vast majority who are big fans of the ALIEN franchise. Brm

No. Most of them are jerks sitting in front a keyboard in lieu of dating.
You can pick apart ANY movie to pass the time of day. Doesn't make you Roger Ebert.

So what does that make you?
I don't know. Certainly not a jerk sitting in front of a keyboard in lieu of dating.
BTW, these jerks you seem to admire are likely the same internet jerks viciously pulling down EVERY movie they perceive as being:
a. socially inclusive and/or b. encouraging the empowerment of women - in front or behind the lens.
Ask Kathleen Kennedy or the cast of Ghostbusters etc etc.
Frankly I'd prefer these jerks to leave the reviewing to the pros, and just settle for glassy-eyed Jordan Peterson worship and stuffing their maga hats up their collective arse (and yes, that's how you actually spell "arse").
