I was lucky enough to see John Waters talk for a couple of hours yesterday. He went briefly through his films and talked about politics and identity and sexuality. He was a really great speaker. Hilarious and entertaining. He also gave very thoughtful answers during the Q&A at the end. If he's ever in your town go and see him. He's a lark!
Yup that would be ace. He's so good when he speaks. He mentioned he was 70 at one point and that blew my mind. He comes across like he's 20 years younger and mist of what he said was pure gold sntertainment. I'm still smiling about it days later and my mate said the same. I'd go out of my way to catch him speaking again.
Back when John was just a wee lad of 53 or so we had him as a guest for the Southwestern premiere of CECIL B. DEMENTED at the Fort Worth Film Festival. In addition to appearing at the screening he also conducted his talk and attended a party in his honor. Knowing that he was intensely interested in true crime we managed to get Cullen Davis there. Though it was national news a lot of people probably don't know or remember the infamous murder case involving Davis who was accused of murdering his separated wife's daughter and boyfriend. He went on trial again for allegedly conspiring to murder the judge in his divorce case. He got off on both counts. Anyway, John greatly enjoyed being this close-up to the prime suspect in a murder case. A great guest and highly enjoyable gentleman John was.
