Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am tempted to pick up The Final Episodes on iTunes and try that out first.
If one had to compare Lost to other MG compositions, which would be the most similar?
Lost was the project that ended up defining Giacchino's sound. It's hard to find compositions that don't sound like it, in one way or another. That said, I'd say Let Me In or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes come the closest.

Yes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes does come the closest.
I enjoy most of Giacchino's film scores, but have yet to dip into any of his TV stuff, specifically Lost. My question is which season to begin with? I know logic dictates working chronologically through them, but I'd prefer to go for the most thematically rich season first, in case it's not my cup of tea.
Season 1 through 4. Stop there
Wholeheartedly disagree. In Season 6, the new theme composed for Richard is stunning and only heard in one episode, plus there is all those new melodies in the final episode underscoring that special place on the island, again heard only in that episode.
The "Richard" theme is essential. It was looped in my head for a long time upon hearing it the first time.
