After the previous CD releases of the television works of Georges Delerue (Les Visiteurs, L’Homme qui revient de loin, Le Mythomane and L’Éducation sentimentale), Music Box Records is very pleased to explore once more the television scope of Georges Delerue's music and presents the complete score to the 1980 TV drama series Les Chevaux du soleil (Horses of the Sun, 1980) directed by François Villiers (TV series Les Chevaliers du ciel).
Adapted from Jules Roy's historical novel of the French presence in North Africa, the TV series follows the destiny of two families, the Bouychous and the Parises, from the conquest of Algiers in 1830 to the Independence in 1962.
For this lavish mini-series, Georges Delerue established the various moods of his epic-scale score with his unrivalled melodic and lyrical style. In addition to the war themes and the picturesque ones, the composer chose to highlight the moving fate of some characters for full orchestra with colorful music and exotic touches.
This expanded edition, fully remastered from the original recording sessions, features 40 minutes of previously unreleased music and includes an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison, discussing the TV series and the score.

I remember going into the old INTRADA Vallejo Street location in San Francisco in the early 80's and buying this release as a Vinyl Album as an import. I'd never heard of the film, but I loved Delerue and the cover art was intriguing to me. What I discovered was an adventure score with some truly gorgeous passages that were, to me anyway, pure Delerue magic! That album was lost in moves and I haven't heard this music in decades. Now there's more music added to the c.d. release, all I can say is I'm certain you'll enjoy this!

I consider myself a Delerue completist. Ennio Morricone is way up there in stature, but there are scores of his that I would not be interested in. Looking forward to this new release from Music Box.
Indeed a wonderful surprise for this 68-minute long expanded CD ! For those who love Delerue, this one is not avoidable, as it contains epic, romantic styles and breath.
I had only, like many others the compilation CD of TV series by Delerue, label Frémeaux, featuring only 16 minutes. I will enjoy 50 minutes more ! Ordered very soon. I guess that the 750 copies will soon be sold.
As Maleficio could say : we want more Delerue, without too long delay. There is so much to publish …
I received my copy from Intrada in 3 days after ordering, wow! This release is pure pleasure, from the GORGEOUS first track until it's last, 37 tracks later! This is a long and beautiful Delerue release brimming over with lyrical melody! I urge you to purchase this if you're 'on the fence'; you won't regret it.
This is a Delerue score brimming with everything. His customary, gorgeous, lullaby-like melodies...
...plus, action, suspense, drums, drama, desert music, source-like tracks! (Phew!! It's like THE SWARM!!)
I first heard this score when Damian The Postman used to pass me C90 cassettes, filled with all kinds of European score wonders, during the 80s, on our Sountrack Gang Saturday Afternoon Drink-A-Thons, This would have been a copy of his LP of THE SUN HORSES. Then, I noticed about 16 minutes of it on a compilation CD I had, under its original French title. I didn't buy this CD at first, possibly because I never reconciled the French title with the wonderful score I knew so well. But some recent Delerue postings have stirred up some investigations from me and this was tracked down, via Discogs, for a more than reasonable price. And like those people above me have already opined...Stunningly Gorgeous It Is!!
I first encountered this lovely score 15+ years ago as it's included on the compilation CD: Les Notes de L'Ecran Vol. 1 ... 8 tracks. I bought the full score release (as above) in 2017 but admit I rarely play it. That said, most of my music gets little air-time since I have so many CDs
As it runs approx. 68 mins I split it into two for streaming and, by coincidence, my wife chose to play the first half a few days ago. To my embarrassment, although I identified it as Delerue, I needed a clue - or two - to name the score
Some great themes, but I wouldn't put it in my Delerue Top 10.
I thought about getting this one and never did, it's OOP now but the Movie Music Store still has one for a fair price in case anyone wanted to jump on it:
I enjoy the selection of tracks on Cinéfonia's Les Notes de L'Écran album. It'll be nice to hear more of the score - and finally at a reasonable price!
