Saw this last night. Best film of the year so far.
A total knock-out movie experience. I was buzzin' for hours after it*.
I loved the way some of the chase sequences and action shoot-outs were choreographed to the 'percussive hits' within the songs scoring them.
Maybe it was because he was sometimes dressed like him, but I thought the kid playing Baby would make a perfect young Han Solo (I really hope the guy they got works out).
I just loved everything about this film. Instant classic for me.
What a shame that the 2CD song release couldn't have included a 10/15 minute suite of Price's score, (like the HOT FUZZ CD release), which served as a collection of orchestral interludes, written in the style of 70's David Shire and Michael Small.
Don't miss this film.

I'd be shocked if there was over 15 minutes of score in this film, and what there is was more mood/suspense than anything.

Shaun = watching the film - have you seen it? - it's more than the clothes at times. He does a distant moody stare that reminded me of a young H Ford.
Timothy = you're probably right. It might be barely 10 minutes, but I did notice it, when it was pulsing or throbbing away and it would have been a nice touch to include a suite on the double CD.

This songtrack is a triumph! Original score was TOTALLY unneeded... I'm so sorry Steven Price, but it's a true.

I had the thought from watching the trailers, but that faded when watching the movie (which was great!). No one is Han Solo except for Harrison Ford. Obviously.

I found Price's score to be just great as well as the songtrack. Blur's "Intermission" always seemed like a dumb little instrumental - now I know what it was missing: the sound of windscreen wipers! Other standout songs (most of them beautifully choreographed) include Harlem Shuffle, B-A-B-Y, and Hocus Pocus. Queen's Brighton Rock takes on a whole new feel as well!
I started watched the film last night with wariness - it's Edgar Wright (whose films have pleased me in the past), but blaring, "hip" heist movies usually aren't my kind of thing. I was immediately charmed by its sheer style and cleverness - which was happily sustained throughout the whole two hours. (By contrast, Gangs of New York's first hour or so was brilliantly paced and told its tale with vivid immediacy - and then it lost its mojo for most of the rest of its way).
I liked the tongue in cheek quality of it, but also how it still allowed the appealing Anson Elgort/Lily James romance to have its emotional arc. (Rather like The Hudsucker Proxy in that regard.) Elgort's Elvis Presley/Han Solo cool was great, and it was a treat to see James in contempo outfits. (I've previously seen her only in Downton Abbey and Cinderella.)
Star power from Spacey and Foxx, of course. Hamm's character didn't seem to have much to do in the first part of the movie, but later on: hoooo-boy. The stylized sheen of Baby Driver allowed sights like Eiza Gonzalez' unblinking firing of her big guns to come off as awesomeness, whereas that would be eyebrow-raising in a more serious crime caper. I just wish there had been more of Flea in this! CJ Jones, though, was lovely as Baby's foster dad. And so hilarious to see Paul Williams as a suave gun dealer/undercover cop.
I liked the Austin Power/Mike Myers mask gag. And also "Not a chauffeur. Noted." Lots of clever gems in this. And this movie is essentially a musical with all of the synchronized musical setpieces. I won't be surprised if Baby Driver's main title sequence is on Scott Bettencourt's next list of Best Titles of the year!

Well, the hipsters will like it (but only on vinyl).
It says 28 tracks, but it's really just one big long one.
No gaps at all between the songs, score, dialogue and sound FX.
Price gets 9 tracks. Most are very short and almost all are covered with dialogue and sound FX.
It's weird that there are no Kevin Spacey spoken tracks on the disc*, esp' the Was He Slow song that features Baby's dialogue to mix track and plays during the End Credits.
So, a complete fuckin mess if you like your scores over easy.
You may as well just watch the film.
But did we expect anything otherwise (at least it got a CD release, but I'll be taking mine back).
Oh, and it says it's 20 quid, but it's not really.
