It's "GREAT" to have more Mancini ! However I am somewhat surprised that LLL chose to include the re-recorded LP tracks. They have been available on CD and in compilation albums a number of times already. But it won't stop me going for this set.
I find it odd that people love it when the album inclusion is redundant, but in a case like this where the album is unique they "find it odd":? Yeesh.
Since I'm not big on 'The Party', the inclusion of the LP is very welcome for me.
Like Vince Guaraldi's music for PEANUTS, thank god Markowitz won out.
Agreed! Tiomkin's theme song doesn't fit at all! Considering how many spy/western/detective show composers worked on this series, it's a pity Gerald Fried never did any episodes.
I ordered it this morning, $54 (to the UK). Oh for those lovely far off days when it was around two dollars to the pound & cheap p&p. But you know, I don't care (even with possible custom charges), how often do I get a personal grail this this released...hardly ever, & maybe never again (I've virtually given up hope of those Rozsa Conducts Rozsa albums being released on CD). Thanks LLL.

That's an interesting point, seems like he would be a natural choice. Maybe he was too busy, assuming they asked him?

I’ve no objections to album recordings coupled with the film tracks. I’m happy to have the likes of Paris When It Sizzles, The Rocketeer & Hurry Sundown amongst others. But these and others like them would be difficult to obtain elsewhere. My point was that the Mancini RCA LP tracks are available already as downloads, single CDs, twofers and as part of a box set unlike the original film recordings which I consider "unique". Kritzerland issued Two or The Road and Intrada released Charade, Hatari & Breakfast at Tiffany’s all without the re-recorded LP tracks. Presumably LLL had to pay for the use of the LP re-recordings. I’m just puzzled that they considered it necessary to do so when the recordings can be had elsewhere.

Well I don't know (none of us do), but as I posted earlier, maybe LLL didn't have a choice with the inclusion of the LP recording. The whole thing may have been a real mess to sort out, & LLL may well have had to jump through quite a few hoops to get this released (not literally of course), remember, this was supposed to be released on the 50th anniversary of the film 2015.
Again, thank's to all at LLL for sticking with this project.
I really like what Mr. Titus did on the 3 Discs of "The Great Race" with the title; on the first disc you have a big "THE" on disc 2 a big "GREAT" and on disc 3 a big "RACE". Nice touch!
It also fits very well to have a picture of Fate on Disc 1 considering the row of Fate-theme-cues on it.
Transformers clearly outselling the other 4 titles, with WWW running second and Great Race a distant third.
That was only to be expected.
I'm going to guess that the one with the hot brunette Madeleine is fourth and the one with the hot redheaded Madeleine is in last place.
You got it...not too far behind Great Race though.
Like I said, all are doing well, but was expecting a little more out of Great Race out of the gate. Perhaps it will win out in the long run.
Regardless, it's an amazing release incredibly produced by Neil S. Bulk with great liner notes by Jeff Bond and but with barely passable art direction by Jim Titus.

Oh, this silver-ager is gonna get Great Race also, I just had to get WWW first as that was something I wanted since I was 13. I'm glad it's doing well.
MV, may I bump again question about Great Race cover?
[P.S.: Just noticed there's a "1" in the French flag lower right corner of the HQ cover of THE GREAT RACE which I guess is some Photoshop leftover (it's not on the "FB shareable" jpg)? No biggie obviously.
