The man was a legend. He created a new genre. KNIGHTRIDERS and MONKEY SHINES are among my all-time favourite scores, DAY OF THE DEAD is my all-time favourite score.

I would never have picked up a camera if not for him.

I recently listened to Monkey Shines. That final flute curtain call is a beaut.

The trilogy.

Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead

These were Romero's finest works that hit the box office big-time. There were never any better zombie films other than these 3.

R.I.P. George.

Dawn of the Dead cost $650,000 to make, it made 55 million at the box office, it will all ways be remembered as an iconic film, a cult classic.

It was produced, as you probably know, in Pittsburgh, where it was premiered with much ballyhoo, at a Drive-In (I think), at the time when I was a freshman at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). I'll never forget a couple of my fellow frosh returning from and reporting on the gala opening, describing all the extreme cannibalistic behavior -- and laughing uproariously. They thought it was the funniest, most absurd movie they'd ever seen in their lives.

Who knew?

Actually, the film premiered on 1 October 1968 at the 1,300-seat Fulton Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. After closing in the 1980's, that theater was restored and reopened in 1991 as the Byham Theater in honor of generous donors William C. and Carolyn M. Byham. Today the Byham hosts concerts, dance, musicals, and films.

Thanks, Bob, As you can tell, that's the one detail I wasn't sure of.

That's easily my favorite score for a Romero movie...alternately suspenseful and wistfully beautiful.
