Two new releases are available and in stock:

L'ASSASSINO
Music Composed and Conducted by Piero Piccioni
Limited edition of 300 units

Quartet Records in collaboration with Gruppo Sugar presents premiere CD release of Piero Piccioni (Fighting Back, The Light at the Edge of the World, Scacco alla regina, Camille 2000) complete score for Elio Petri’s first major film.

Best-known for winning an Academy Award for his 1970 picture Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, director Elio Petri was one of the most significant Italian auteur directors. His first ever film L’Assassino (aka The Ladykiller) stars Marcello Mastroianni as an antique dealer supporting his lavish lifestyle from conducting shady deals. When his mistress/benefactor is found murdered, Alfredo becomes the likeliest suspect – after all, he was the last one to see her alive, he owed her money and their relationship was coming to a close…

Though most of Petri’s films were memorably scored by Ennio Morricone, his earliest pictures were helmed by Piero Piccioni. L’Assassino features a jazz-infused score by Maestro Piccioni as the composer uses creative techniques to juxtapose source and score music. By using a tingling sound effect, the score also aids the director in establishing the film’s main narrative gimmick, that is the reliance on flashbacks. While Piccioni later reunited with Petri and Mastroianni on the somewhat better known The 10th Victim, this score is not to be missed either!

The CD features the complete score, including the 5-track EP that Piccioni assembled, but didn’t see released, all mastered by Claudio Fuiano. The package includes liner notes by Gergely Hubai discuss the film and the score.

IO, EMMANUELLE
Music Composed and Conducted by Gianno Ferrio
Limited edition of 300 units

Quartet Records in collaboration with Gruppo Sugar present the premiere CD release of a Gianni Ferrio (The Mysterious Island of Captain Nemo, Vivi o preferiblemente morti, Un dollaro bucato, Tony Arzenta) infectious, classy "Emmanuelle score."

Io, Emmanuelle (also known as A Man for Emmanuelle) was made in 1969, five years before the first entry of the popular erotic movie – and is in fact have no relation to the famous franchise. This story is actually based on the story Disintegrazione 68 by Graziella Di Prospero who co-wrote the screenplay together with the film’s director, Cesare Canavari. The titular Emmanuelle is a neurotic woman who is looking for tenderness in all the wrong places. She tries to enjoy sex, but the men she sleeps with are all either crude, selfish or arrogant with no real interest in her beside the carnal pleasures. Over the course of the film, she reaches out to all kinds of strange people with often depressing results…

The music for Io, Emmanuelle is courtesy of Italian composer Gianni Ferrio, one of the lesser celebrated Italian composers of the Italian silver age. Much like the film itself, the music for Io, Emmanuelle includes a series of self-contained pieces, each tailor-made for the increasingly crazier encounters with men. From the blasphemous religious orgy of "Preludio" / "Profonditá" to bass flute solo of "Ricerca" during the lesbian bathroom encounter to the insanity of the militaristic "Caos", every piece of the puzzle fits in nicely with Emmanuelle chequered love life. Every man Emmanuelle encounters receives his own musical insignia, a self-contained set piece tailor-made for each conquest.

The current CD recreates the original 13-track LP program, followed by five bonus tracks including the most important additions of them all - the actual theme song. Mastered by Claudio Fuiano, the package includes liner notes by Gergely Hubai discuss the film and the score.

Both titles are in stock now.

The LP of Io, Emmanuelle sold a few times for more than 100 Euro on ebay. So I'm surprised there's not more interest, but maybe on other forums.

That doesn't surprise me 100+, Morricone lp scores can fetch vast sums.

Quartets releases R stunning lately. 300 copy scores like these 2 R instant purchases for me, just in case they sell out.
