"The Client" was an hour-long television series based upon the John Grisham novel and the 1994 theatrical film of the same name, which had starred Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. In the series, JoBeth Williams played "Reggie Love," an Atlanta attorney specializing in family law. John Heard was "District Attorney Roy Foltrigg," her most frequent adversary in court, but someone who still liked and respected her.

CBS premiered the series as a two-hour television movie on Sunday, 17 September 1995. It began its regular run the following Tuesday, 19 September, at 8 PM. The series faced fairly stiff competition from ABC's "Roseanne" (the #16 rated series for the year) and NBC's "Wings" (#35) and "NewsRadio" (#39). "The Client" was cancelled after a single season.

THE CHUMSCRUBBER follows a zonked-out high schooler (Jamie Bell), whose personal-space bubble is forcibly breached after witnessing the death of his small-time drug dealer friend. Soon, the quest for a misplaced stash leads to both a botched kidnapping and increasing levels of pharmaceutical-fueled dementia, all the while staying under the radar of the community's variously self-medicating parental units. Glenn Close stars as the stone-faced, inwardly destroyed Stepford mother of the deceased dealer. John Heard plays "Officer Lou Bratley." Arie Posin directed this 2005 darkly satiric tale. James Horner's score shared space with a number of songs on the Lakeshore Records soundtrack release.

No recounting of John Heard's career would be complete without mentioning his co-starring role in the original, infamous SHARKNADO, the 2013 television film that combined two fan favorites--sharks and disaster films. The story finds "Fin Shepard" (Ian Ziering), a former elite surfer, now running a bar on the Santa Monica pier. He hangs out with surfer buddy "Baz" (Jaason Simmons) and employs spunky waitress "Nova" (Cassie Scerbo), while veteran John Heard brings up the rear as barfly "George."

Soon, a ferocious storm approaches, driving great numbers of sharks towards the shore where they promptly begin to feast on unlucky swimmers. As one shark comes crashing into the bar through a window, Nova gets to show she’s one to be reckoned with by impaling it with a pool cue. George takes care of another one with his trusty bar stool, before the group heads inland through the rapidly flooding city in order to rescue Fin’s ex-wife "April" (Tara Reid) and daughter. Anthony C. Ferrante directed this genre mash-up. Ramin Kousha's score was released by Lakeshore Records.

John Heard's lead roles in several independent films at the start of his career did not lead to "movie stardom," but instead to a nearly 40-year career as one of our best character actors. Thanks for all your fine portrayals, John, of good guys and bad.
