So I had some fun at 2017 Comic-Con but I also don't think I will do Hall H again for anything massively popular. People were lined up overnight to get into the Warner Brothers panel. I never found out from someone inside if it cleared out much before Marvel but I doubt it. People were also lined up overnight to get into the two Walking Dead panels on Friday. I got there at 8AM and got in JUST as they started the panel. From people in line I realized this was only possible because there is less overlap between the two fanbases than there is for when Star Wars panels are the same day. Since nothing else after Game of Thrones interested me enough to hang around, I left after the single 1 hour panel. It was great though and had a big panel with Brianne, Sansa, Bran, Davos, Greyworm, Theon, and a few others.

After that I went to an AI panel where I got a great seat pretty easy by hanging out during the panel about tips for writers getting published, which was pretty interesting. I was there about an hour early. I got Michael Scorefan to join me at this panel and we went together to a local brewery called Resident to have dinner and beer. The food was more impressive than I expected and nobody was disappointed at our table. They had a number of great speakers including an Indian woman who works for Microsoft and an African woman who teaches tech stuff at a local university.

Because I wasn't doing Hall H I did more book panels on Saturday and it was a lot more fun/satisfying. I started with a panel about Space as a subject in Science Fiction featuring Andy Weir and James S. A. Corey (both of them as the two men share a pen name) and a few others I wasn't familiar with. This was a lot of fun and all of the panel was good fun especially some sarcasm by the two Coreys. I also made some awesome new friends (likely more than just convention friends) who happen to live in my same town. The mother and daughter I sat next to, the mother reads a lot of the same sci-fi and has a ton of books in her library in the garage. We went together to the book signing for Weir's new book Artemis where we got the book for no charge and signed. I also had him sign my kindle case

I then went to a panel of tech guys talking about robotics, AI, AR, VR, etc. Lots of fun stuff and the place didn't even get more than 1/3 full. I was especially impressed by the guy from the robotics company. I then went to a panel on worldbuilding and fantasy novels. I really liked two younger authors on the left.

The following day I went to another panel with Andy Weir in the morning, talking about the future in general. He had some really snarky things to say and was joined by various scientists. We then explored the floor and went to the Omni in between panels. Though the Omni was way too crowded and all the VR and AR stuff had crazy lines. I didn't realize it until later but they seemed they were also having everyone use the same equipment, which didn't seem very sanitary. Our last panel of the day was with JPL people talking about mars though it wasn't really as mars-focused as I thought. They did have a lot of fun stories though.

I'll be happy to go into more detail if someone is interested.

If you want to see my photos of the panels, you can see them below.

Wow, didn't know they would have so many panels on science. Well didn't know they would have any panels on science. Other than BSG:TNS I never really got into all the fandom stuff. I used to go to conventions for the dealers room, which for me was like being a kid in a candy store.

In addition to all that mind-expanding learning you no doubt did, I hope you also picked up some nifty back issues in order to fill in those pesky holes in your comic book collection.

That would take a lot more than a few back issues considering my comic collection is nonexistent.

Thanks for meeting up with me at SDCC, and introducing me to a great brewery. If I get tickets next year I hope to hit the brewery again.

OT post: did anyone else notice that this thread itself includes a sci-fi twist? Siriusjr seems to have replied to Jim P's question BEFORE he asked it!

He quoted me before I even wrote it. I really have become predictable.

Apparently seeing Arrival has rewired Siriusjr's brain so that all time is now one, past is present is future....

I guess Comic-Con really IS mind-expanding!

Nice to see Michael Scorefan and Josh Mitchell at the show, and I finally got to meet SirusJr. smile
