Many years ago I had just stepped out of the shower before bedtime, when I heard a terrified scream from my wife. I wrapped a towel around me and ran to her and she was pointing to a very large wolf spider in one corner of the bedroom. It looked more like a tarantula. I didn't want to swat it, as I was afraid if I didn't kill it, it would really be p*ssed. So, I scooped it onto a fly swatter and walked onto our front porch to set it free. Of course my towel snagged on a rocking chair and fell off me. My wife then turned on the porch light. To make matters worse I yellled, "Turn off the light, I'm buck naked!" I've seen a "movie" or two that started like this! (Excellent story, by the by!)

We see them quite often running across the floor, up the wall. At times they are quite a presence, my dad usually gives them names. They are most often seen when I'm sitting on the loo. Some are massive.

We're coming into spider season in the UK now, not that there's more spiders than normal, it's just that it's mating season & they throw caution to the wind in the search for a mate. Usually spiders are so good at staying hidden that you hardly ever see them, & if you spot one & take your eyes off it to find something to catch it, it disappears & you just can't find it again. I don't like spiders, but I'm getting better as I get older. The house spider in the UK doesn't bite, isn't poisonous & eats other insects, but if I see one running across the floor, it's a bit of a shock. Yep, we’ve had two huge ones in the house today. I take them out into the garden on the grounds that had the cat seen them, they’d have ended up eaten - but only after a good dabbing.
