The One by Reginald Dwight BTW.....your first one is outstanding, but I would have to say "Everything I Own" beats it... I start singing along with it and start crying nearly every time(Has to do with my first crush in high school...yes... she broke my heart).
Those other songs you posted.....not my cup of tea.
Exquisite choice. I was in h.s. and must have worn out the 45. Later, "A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night" which had more of the greatest love songs than you could shake a stick at.
Those other songs you posted.....not my cup of tea.
The original version of "Without You" was composed and recorded by Badfinger, not Harry Nilsson.
Nilsson's cover was fine, but I prefer the Badfinger version.
BTW, "Cherish" is one of those "obsessing-over-the-one-I-can't-have"-type songs; ya gots to look beyond the pretty-sounding vocal and "dig" the lyrics.
I never knew Badfinger covered "Without You"! I'll have to look that up on ye olde youtube! Listening to it now.... very nice, and I did NOT KNOW that Badfinger WROTE THIS! Still, I do prefer Nilsson's version over Badfinger's, nice though it is. I guess it's because I heard Nilsson's version first.
I'll ALWAYS remember hearing this song for the very first time... it was the summer of 1992, I'm sure of that because MTV STILL PLAYED FUCKING VIDEOS BACK THEN! Anyhoooooo... I was visiting my sister at the coast... I had come in around 12:30 one night, turned the TV on, and it was on MTV. I started listening and immediately recognised it as Elton John... but I'd never HEARD THIS song before. I was completely mesmerized! This is his most gorgeous song, and one of THE most gorgeous songs ever! Oh... and the video is beautiful as well!
What Harry's cover had, and what Badfinger's version lacked, was production. Good production can make or break a song, as everyone knows.
Anyway, here's my all-time favorite:
Countless people have covered Mr. Williams, but I have always loved hearing his songs in his own voice above anyone else's. One day there will be a world without him, and I will be bloody crushed.
