I hadn't heard this before but I must say it does sound rather good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEAb8JNfvXs Really? You weren't aware of the Herrmann at Fox box our our single release of Hangover Square, from whence this comes?

Thanks for your comments, both of you. I am surprised I haven't heard it since I've read quite a lot on Herrmann, including the excellent biography of him. Perhaps it's because it comes from a film I wouldn't have taken much interest in; I'm not sure. I've only vaguely heard of the title of this film anyway. And, no, I wasn't aware of that boxed set to which you refer. Thanks for the heads-up. I don't contribute here very often; usually only when I find something of interest/importance. First of all, seek out Hangover Square the film - it's wonderful - directed beautifully by John Brahm and the score is brilliant.

As well as the Joaquin Achucarro/NPO performance with Gerhardt for RCA, and the OST and Chandos mentioned, there's the David Buechner/NZPO for Koch, with it's own title-dedicated CD. For those who know the great UK comedian and writer Spike Milligan (I never can figure out how well known he was in the US outside of the Lester Musketeer films), in one of his autobiographies he talks about going to see the movie after his demob from WWII. He hated it, kept mis-titling it 'Hanover Square', and decried the 'bloody depressing music', himself a jazz musician. 'takes all sorts, as they say.
